Shildon AFC can confirm that John Reay will be stepping down from his role as Director of Youth Football after a transformative tenure. John has overseen significant development within the youth structure in recent years, and he leaves with strong foundations firmly in place for the continued growth of our youth programme.
During his time as Director, John introduced a comprehensive coaching curriculum focused on long-term player development and established a successful player pathway that has already seen several youth players progress to the Shildon AFC First Team. He also expanded opportunities for girls and women within the club, launching the Wildcats programme for younger players and playing a key role in forming Shildon’s first-ever Ladies Team.
Reflecting on his time at the club, John said:
“I first got involved with Shildon AFC in 2015 when Chris Hughes, who was Director of Youth at the time, asked me to come onboard as a youth coach. I’m grateful to David and Diane for trusting me to deliver their vision for youth and Ladies football at Shildon AFC. I’m proud to have been a part of the club’s growth over the past few years but now is the right time for me to make way for someone else to take the reins.”
John will continue to support the club in an advisory capacity, ensuring continuity and offering guidance to the new leadership of Shildon AFC Youth.
Shildon AFC would like to express its sincere thanks to John for his dedication and hard work over the years. His impact on the club has been significant, and we look forward to continuing to work with him in his advisory role. Further details regarding the new leadership of Shildon AFC Youth will be announced in the coming days.
