A Good Win
Shildon AFC visited F.A. Cup heroes Marske United in a league game on Wednesday 6th November 2013 and won a hard fought encounter 2 – 1.
On a wet evening it was end to end stuff early on. After 16 minutes Marske’s No 7 Dan Lambert hit the bar, and a minute later keeper Robert Dean dropped the ball from a cross for an easy tap in for Lee Scroggins to put Shildon ahead. They were 2 – 0 up on 25 minutes when a cross from Craig Ruddy was headed in by Ben Wood.
Half Time Marske United 0 Shildon AFC 2
Marske were a far better outfit in the 2nd half and they pulled a goal back just before the hour when Danny Earl scored from 20 yards. Marske pressed for the equaliser and Shildon were pushed back, but they defended well.
Just before the hour Shildon could have added to their score when Ben Wood was clean through, but he failed to lob the ball over the keeper.
Although there wasn’t a bad tackle throughout the game the referee gave out yellow cards like confetti, which annoyed the home crowd particularly. Marske received 7 yellows, and near the end keeper Robert Dean was sent off for something he said. Shildon also received 2 yellows.
Final Score: Marske United 1 Shildon AFC 2
Goalscorers: Scroggins 17, Wood 25.
Subs: Jameson for Kerr 67, Connor for Wood 76, Doninger for Ruddy 88.
Man-of-the-Match: Ben Wood
After the match manager Gary Forrest said “Tonight saw a good all round team performance, and we did what we had to do. Our keeper didn’t have to make a save in the 2nd half”.
