Match Report

A Late Winner

Shildon AFC are still top of the league after a 2 – 3 victory at Durham City on Saturday 7th December 2013, with the winning goal scored by Ben Wood in time added on. This was sweet revenge for the Railwaymen, as in their previous meeting at Dean Street in October, Durham scored their winner in the 94th minute. Ironically, the score was also 2 – 3.

After only 4 minutes Shildon took the lead when a cross from Jamie Harwood was blasted into the roof of the net by Paul Connor.

Although Shildon were the driving force in the 1st half  they didn’t add to their score.

Half Time:  Durham City  0  Shildon AFC  1

After the break Durham put Shildon under early pressure and they levelled on 51 minutes when a bad back pass by Jamie Harwood was intercepted by Stephen Turnbull who fired a screamer from 35 yards.

Just after the hour a corner ball fired into the crowded box was put through his own goal by Durham’s Jack Walker.

Durham pressed for the equaliser and on 70 minutes they got their reward when Denver Morris split Shildon’s defence and fired past Lewis Graham for 2 – 2.

In time added on, against the run of play, Shildon snatched victory when a Paul Connor shot ricocheted to Ben Wood who side footed the ball home.
