Shildon are through to Final

Shildon AFC are through to the final of the Durham Challenge Cup after a 3 – 1 home win against Consett on Wednesday 26th February 2014. They will play Spennymoor  in the final at Heritage Park, home of Bishop’s on Good Friday 18th April with a 10 45 am kick off.

The game was  an evenly matched affair in the first half. A Ben Wood shot was cleared off the line and shortly after his left foot shot hit the post.

Minutes later Consett took the lead when a cross from the right was easily tapped in by No 10 Michael McKay.

On 29 minutes Shildon were level when keeper Chris Elliott kicked the ball straight to Ben Wood who fired into an empty net.

In the 2nd half both sides had chances. First Shildon’s Craig Ruddy hit the bar then Consett’s Matthew Slocombe  just missed the target.

On 79 minutes the Railwaymen were 2 – 1 up when a corner from Mark Hudson found Darren Richardson whose powerful header was unstoppable.

With 8 minutes left Sam garvie was red carded for a two footed tackle.

Shildon secured the win near the end when captain Mark Hudson hooked the ball over the keeper into the roof of the net.
