Match Report

Two Valuable Points Lost

Shildon AFC dropped two valuable points on Saturday 8th March when they could only draw 0 – 0 away to 2nd bottom club Hebburn Town.

Shildon had hammered Hebburn 6 – 0 at Dean Street in September and on paper it should have been a walk over, but alas, it was anything but.

Both teams had chances in the 1st half, but nobody could find the back of the net. Town’s Shaun Reay missed twice then Chris Smith headed wide. For Shildon Sam Garvie was clean through but fired well wide. Then Town’s star man keeper Gary Rogers blocked close range shots from Stephen Johnson and Billy Gruelich-Smith.

Half Time:  Hebburn Town  0  Shildon AFC  0

Early in the 2nd half Town’s Channon North missed a glorious opportunity to score from 6 yards out, before Shildon’s Gruelich-Smith’s effort was cleared off the line. Later on Darren Craddock hit the bar.

Near the end the Railwaymen were denied a blatant penalty for hand ball by the referee.

Full Time:  Hebburn Town  0  Shildon AFC  0

Subs;  Ruddy for Emms 58, Hudson for Turnbull 61, Connor for Gruelich-Smith 72

Bookings:  (Y)  Harwood 89

Man-of-the-Match:  Darren Craddock

A very disappointing performance with several players having an off day. Shildon had 4 one-on-one’s with the keeper but failed miserably each time. To their credit however, Hebburn played well above their league position and they themselves could easily have scored.
