A Comfortable Win
Shildon AFC got their season off to a good start in the Ebac Northern League with a comfortable 4 – 0 home against Billingham Synthonia on Saturday 9th August 2014 .
On a sunny afternoon, Shildon turned out a strong squad with Craig Ruddy, Darren Richardson, Chris Emms, Billy Greulich-Smith and Sam Garvie all on the bench.
After only 11 minutes the Railwaymen took the lead when Micky Rae picked up a loose ball and chipped it over keeper Joe Williamson for Paul Connor to head home at the far post. Minutes later Rae won a challenge on the left and picked out Ben Wood whose great curling shot from outside the box went into the bottom corner.
Shildon then took the foot of the gas and Synners came into the game, but without really troubling the home sides goal.

In the 2nd half after Synner’s Michael Sweet missed a good chance, Shildon extended their lead when a perfect corner from Mark Hudson found Carl Jones whose long range header went over the keeper.
Synners missed another chance before Shildon made it 4 – 0, with another perfect through ball from Mark Hudson to Lee Scroggins who blasted into the roof of the net.
Near the end Synners Michael Sweet brought a good save out of Keith Finch.
