Shildon Go Through
Shildon AFC are through to the next round of the F.A. Cup after a 1 -0 away victory at Padiham, near Burnley, who play in the Evostik Northern Premier League, which includes Darlington 1883 and Spennymoor. The Railwaymen will play Whitby Town at home in the next round on Saturday 13th September.
The first chance fell to the Storks No 9 Paul Fildes whose shot was punched away by Shildon keeper Lewis Graham.
Then Sam Garvie fired just wide before Shildon were awarded a penalty on the half hour when Daniel Moore was brought down by Craig Haynes in the box. Up stepped reliable penalty taker captain Mark Hudson to give Shildon the advantage.

Shildon had early possession in the 2nd half before Padiham’s Nathan Hudson’s shot was parried by keeper Lewis Graham to No 11 Kurt Willoughby, but Shildon’s Carl Jones made a brilliant block with his feet.
On the hour Carl Jones effort was goal bound but it was headed off the line by Padiham’s man-of-the-match Louis Haynes.
Ten minutes later Shildon’s man-of-the-match Daniel Moore saw his long range shot hit the post and bounce back into play.
Near the end Ben Wood and Billy Greulich-Smith were both through but failed to add to the score.

After the match manager Gary Forrest said “The 1st half was a good solid performance, but in the 2nd we were not as good. Perhaps the long 3 hour journey down to Lancashire wasn’t the best preparation for the game. Nevertheless, we deserved to win”.
