Match Report

A Dreadful Performance

Shildon AFC is now 6th in the league after a bad 1 – 0 defeat at Guisborough Town on Wednesday 2nd September 2014. The scoreline flattered the Railwaymen somewhat, as they could easily have lost by a far greater margin. It was the team’s worst performance for a long time. They couldn’t get out of their own half, particularly in the 1st half.

Guisborough created 3 good chances with Anthony Hume firing over the bar, then Tommy Marron fired just wide and right on half time Leon Carling headed over with the goal at his mercy.

Half Time:  Guisborough Town  0  Shildon AFC  0

Town carried on in the 2nd half looking threatening and on 53 minutes they got their just reward when captain Tommy Marron shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Minutes later Shildon got another let off when a long range ball was missed by  keeper Lewis Graham onto the head of Anthony Hume, but luckily it went just wide.

It was the 70th minute before Shildon had their first shot of the game from Ben Wood, and even then it went wide. Two minutes later Billy Greulich-Smith had an open goal but fired straight into the keepers hands. Then Darren Richardson missed from close range.

Final Score:  Guisborough Town  1  Shildon AFC  0

Subs:  Garvie for Rundle 20, Greulich-Smith for Hodgson 61, Connor for Rae 78

Man-of-the-Match:  There wasn’t one. The whole team under-performed. Shildon did not play like league title favourites. In the last 4 games they have only acquired 5 points, which is not championship form.
