Shildon Disappointed They Didn’t Win

In front of a big crowd Shildon AFC played out a 1 – 1 home draw with Whitby Town on Saturday 13th September 2014 in the F.A. Cup 1st Qualifying Round and will replay in Whitby on Wednesday 17th September.

The early pressure came from Town’s Matty Brown and then Craig Farrel,l both heading wide.

Shildon got into their stride with Daniel Moore firing over. On 16 minutes Paul Connor broke through but blasted over, Shildon’s best chance so far.

The Railwaymen went ahead after 29 minutes when Ben Wood scored a long range cracker, giving the keeper no chance.

On 40 minutes it was 1 – 1 when the persistent Liam Shepherd rounded Daniel Moore  and  fired low into the bottom corner.

Early in the 2nd half Paul Connor beat the off  side trap and rounded the keeper Shane Bland and stroked the ball towards the empty net, only to be thwarted by a defender, who cleared off the line.

Shildon were dominate and pushed hard for the winner with Ben Wood firing over the bar and Chris Emms hitting the post. Then Darren Richardson shot across the goal from a narrow angle just skimming the post.

Despite Shildon creating several chances, there were no more goals.

Shildon were disappointed they didn’t win the game.
