Shildon AFC Win after Extra Time

After the mid-week disappointment of going out of the F.A. Cup on Wednesday night replay against Norton United, Shildon travelled to Colne FC on Saturday 1st November 2014 in the 1st Round proper of the F.A. Vase and despite going behind twice the Railwaymen came away worthy 3 – 2 winners, scoring the decisive goal in extra time.

In front of a larger than life crowd of 322, which is normally just under 100, the atmosphere throughout the game  was brilliant, with the home side supporters behind the goal chanting away from the kick off and carrying on chanting well after the final whistle had gone. A credit to the club.

Shildon started strongly with a Ben Wood shot well stopped and then Adam Rundle’s drive was punched away by keeper Chris Thompson.

At the other end, danger man No 10 Daniel Boyle beat three Shildon defenders but he fired over.

On 33 minutes Shildon’s keeper Kyle Hayes made a great save from Andy Tinkler and a minute later Colne’s keeper did the same , pushing Ben Wood, shot onto the bar.

Just before half time Colne went 1 – 0 up when a long through ball was picked up on the half way line by Daniel Boyle who outpaced Shildon’s defence to slot past keeper Hayes.

Half Time:  Colne FC  1  Shildon AFC  0

Early in the 2nd half Colne’s Keiran Demaine had a one-on-one with Shildon keeper Kyle Hayes, who saved brilliantly with his feet.

On 62 minutes it was 1 – 1 when a cross from Micky Rae was blasted in by Ben Wood.

Minutes later Colne regained the lead when Shildon’s defence failed to close down Daniel Boyle who ran through and scored his 2nd goal of the game.

Shildon pressed forward and with 10 minutes remaining got their reward when Ben Wood scored his 2nd goal of the game  firing in an angled shot through a crowd of players, taking the game into extra time.

Just before the half way point of extra time man of the match Lee Scroggins won the ball in his own half and steamed through finding Paul Connor who outpaced the defence and fired into the roof of the net for the winning goal.
