Another Comfortable Win

In front of a disappointing crowd considering how well the team had been playing, Shildon AFC progressed to the 3rd Round of the F.A. Vase with a comfortable 2 – 0 home win against Runcorn Town on Saturday 22nd November 2014.

From the kick off Shildon took control and dominated the play with Paul Connor creating three early chances and Ben Wood firing wide. Then Lee Scroggins shot across the face of the goal before Daniel Moore’s shot was saved by keeper Stuart Plant’s feet.

It was all Shildon with Runcorn defending in numbers, very rarely getting out off their own half. Despite all their possession, the Railwaymen failed to hit the back of the net before the interval.

From the kick off Chris Emm’s shot was tipped over by Runcorn’s keeper Stuart Plant.

Shortly afterwards Shildon finally broke the deadlock when a Mark Doninger free kick was headed into the bottom corner by Jamie Harwood.

With 6 minutes remaining a cross from Micky Rae was headed in from close range by Daniel Moore for 2 – 0.

After the match manager Gary Forrest said “Another good win. We are not going to score 4 or 5 goals every game and this was a prime example today. They defended in numbers so we knew we had to be patient and keep plugging away, which we did, and the goals followed”.
