Match Report
Another Poor Performance.
Before today’s game Shildon AFC were advised that the match against Ashington on Saturday 10th October, which Shildon won 2 – 1 will have to be played again. The Railwaymen had fielded an ineligible player, Anthony Bell who hadn’t received international clearance, even though he had played five games for Darlington before signing for Shildon. This means three points less, putting Morpeth Town top of the league.
Shildon travelled to Consett on Saturday 24th October 2015 looking for revenge after losing 2 – 1 at home just three weeks earlier in their worse team performance of the season. Alas, things didn’t turn out any better today as Shildon were once again very poor, as the whole team underperformed.
On a wind swept afternoon, with new signing from Spennymoor Lewis Dodds at No 8 Shildon started stronger but nevertheless went behind on 21 minutes when Consett scored with their first shot of the day. Captain Dan Cragg’s swerving drive against the wind from 30 yards out beating Kyle Hayes.
After Micky Rae headed over from 6 yards out Shildon levelled on 45 minutes when Micky Rae found Ben Wood.
Half Time: Consett 1 Shildon AFC 1
Shildon didn’t perform at all in the second half with Consett taking the lead on 76 minutes when a cross ball from the right was bundled out of Kyle Hayes hands and Michael Mackay fired into the net.
Shildon’s one and only effort in the whole of the second half was a Bobby Moore header on 82 minutes. Not one single shot at goal.
With just 2 minutes remaining Gary Brown handled in the box and Michael Mackay scored his second goal of the game from the spot.
Final Score: Consett 3 Shildon AFC 1
Goalscorer: Wood 45.
Subs: Greulich-Smith for Davies 55, Doninger for Dodds 68, Fryatt for Rae 75.
Bookings: (Y) Dodds 37, Brown 58, Harwood 77.
Man-of-the-Match: Just like the previous meeting with Consett, there wasn’t one.
After the game a Consett supporter said “How on earth is Shildon top of the league playing like that”. How true!
After todays games Shildon have dropped to second place in the league on 34 points with Morpeth Town top on 36 points, with a game in hand.
