Match Report
Shildon showed their mettle at a blustery Boldon CA Sports Ground on Saturday 26th March 2016 when they overturned a 1-0 early deficit to record a 3-1 win and stretch their lead at the top of the Northern League to 16 points.
With Shildon sitting on 99 league goals for the season, all the talk among the fans was about who would score the 100th, but the fans would have to wait as the visitors fell behind in 12 minutes when veteran striker, Paul Chow, pounced on a long ball missed by the Shildon defence to put the hosts in front.
Ten minutes later, any nerves among the Shildon fans were settled, on the century scorer when Mickey Rae – who had earlier required treatment after colliding with the barrier behind the goal – fed Ben Wood who calmly slotted past the helpless Roofing keeper.
Just before the break, Ben could have doubled his account but, with the keeper advancing, his lifted shot hit the side netting.
Half Time: Jarrow Roofing 1 Shildon AFC 1
With the wind at Shildon’s back in the second half, the league leaders quickly adapted to the change in pace and dominated the whole second half.
Ten minutes into the half, Billy made excellent use of the wind to curl a shot from distance towards the top corner and was unfortunate to see it hit the underside of the bar. However, the diminutive Lewis Dodds was on hand to nod the rebound home before celebrating in his own unique style.
Seven minutes later the points were secured when Mickey Rae, through on goal, was brought down by the keeper. Mickey got up to take the kick himself to give Shildon an unassailable 3-1 lead.
There was still time for the dominant Railwaymen to hit the woodwork twice more. Billy again saw a fierce drive crash off the crossbar, which will still be reverberating from the force of the shot. Lewis Wing, with a trademark free kick from distance, seemed to fool the keeper who thought the shot was drifting wide before watching it bounce back into play off his right hand post..

After the match the manager Gary Forrest said “Jarrow is not an easy place to come to and get a result. In blustery conditions I thought we adapted well, and perhaps we should have won by more goals”.
