After a surprising 0 – 2 home defeat against Penrith in the F.A. Cup in August, a game the Railwaymen should have won, Shildon travelled to Penrith for a league game on Tuesday 24th September and won comfortably 3 – 0.
They went ahead early on when Mark Stephenson fired a thunderous drive from the left. Shildon were in control and went 2 – 0 up on 26 minutes when a loose ball from keeper Jonny Jamison was pounced on and Mark Doninger fired into the bottom corner.
Paul Connor looked dangerous when he beat two defenders but keeper Jamison made a great stop. Shortly after Connor was through again, rounded the keeper but his shot was cleared off the line.
On 54 minutes were 3 – 0 up and game over when a corner ball was headed first by Mark Stephenson onto Sam Garvie’s head who scored from close range.
Later on, Penrith came more into the game with Jordan Little beating three Shildon defenders but he fired wide.
Near the end Penrith’s Steven Rigg was unmarked only 6 yards out, but he hit the bar.
A comfortable win and a clean sheet.
