A Comfortable Win

Shildon AFC played their second home game of the season on Saturday 13th August 2016 and went top of the league after a comfortable 3 – 0 win against Ashington.

Early Shildon pressure produced five corners in the first 8 minutes, with Billy Greulich-Smith heading just wide.

On 12 minutes Ashington’s first chance fell to Andrew Bulford who was through but keeper Nick Liversedge made a great block with his feet.

Shortly after Lewis Wing’s stunning long range free kick crashed into the roof of the net to give Shildon the lead.

Minutes later Lewis Dodds found Billy Greulich-Smith who scored from 10 yards out for 2 – 0.

On the half hour another Lewis Wing long range free kick was just wide.

From the restart Shildon’s David Ferguson made two great moves but fired wide both times.

For Ashington on 50 minutes Scott Blandford had a free header from a corner.

On 81 minutes a perfect cross from Lewis Dodds found Paul Connor on the back post as he headed in from close range.

Just before the whistle Shildon thought they had scored again but David Ferguson’s shot was touched on the way in by Lewis Wing who was in an offside position.
