First Home Defeat for The Railwaymen
Shildon AFC are still 3rd place in the league albeit 8 points behind the top two after their first home defeat of the season, going down by the only goal of the game against league title favourites South Shields on Wednesday 12th October 2016.
The game was fairly even until Shildon’s Jamie Harwood was dismissed early in the 2nd half.
It was end to end stuff played at a fast pace with Shildon’s Billy Greulich-Smith point blank shot well saved, and Lewis Wings going close three times.
At the other end Shield’s David Foley was clean through but blasted over, before keeper Nick Liversedge went full length to push way David Carson’s low 25 yarder.

Two minutes later Shildon were down to ten men when Jamie Harwood received his second yellow. With the extra man Shields got the upper hand and gave Shildon the run around. Their pressure paid off on 68 minutes when Robbie Briggs put Gavin Cogdon through for him to lift the ball over Nick Liversedge.
Near the end Shildon came close when Paul Connor fired a low left foot shot just wide.

A very competitive match. Shields are the best side to visit Dean Street this season. It may have been a different result had Shildon mot lost a man.
