Shildon lose Ground
Shildon AFC lost ground on the top two in the league after a 2 – 2 away draw against 4th placed Seaham Red Star on Saturday 15th October 2016. The Railwaymen are now 10 points behind South Shields and 12 points behind leaders North Shields, but they have 3 games in hand on both teams.
The home side took an early lead on 12 minutes when Robbie Bird scored from close range.
Shildon levelled just before the half hour when a great cross from Dan Groves found Micky Rae who blasted into the roof of the net.
With a minute remaining before the break Shildon went 2 – 1 up when Paul Connor’s excellent header from a David Ferguson corner beat keeper Shaun Newbrook.

On 55 minutes it was all square. A left cross when straight to the unmarked ex Shildon player Warren Byrne for an easy header near the post.
Both sides missed several chances to win the game.
Shildon’s Paul Connor blasted over, before another shot was tipped over.
Seaham’s Warren Byrne was clean through, but keeper Nick Liversedge made a great block. Sub David Paul was also through and should have scored.
Near the end Shildon’s Amar Purewal came close.

A game of many chances where either side could have won. Shildon’s defence was wide open, especially in the 2nd half. They will need to play better on Saturday 22nd October in the F.A. Vase 1st Round when they travel to Litherland Remyca in Liverpool.
