Shildon’s Lose to Consett
After an 11 game unbeaten run Shildon AFC lost for the first time away at Consett on Tuesday 6th December 2017.
The Railwaymen started brightly in very wet and foggy conditions taking the lead on 17 minutes when Anth Bell found Billy Greulich-Smith who fired into the bottom corner. A second carbon copy goal followed, scored again by Billy. At half time the game looked over as Consett hadn’t threatening Shildon’s goal at all.
Half Time: Consett 0 Shildon AFC 2
Early in the 2nd half neither side created scoring chances, but on 77 minutes things changes when Shildon conceded an unnecessary free kick just outside the box and captain Danny Craggs stepped up to curl his shot well wide of keeper Nick Liversedge into the top corner.
The goal spurred Consett on, and with just 5 minutes remaining Shildon’s Matty Robson inexplicably barged a Consett forward to the ground for a clear penalty which Craggs converted for the equaliser.
Having thrown away a comfortable lead Shildon pressed forward for the winner, but instead were hit by a sucker punch. From a Shildon corner on 87 minutes Consett won the ball and raced up field where Jordan Nellis was on hand to complete a stunning comeback win. Consett had scored 3 goals in 10 minutes.
Final Score: Consett 3 Shildon AFC 2
Goalscorers: Greulich-Smith 17, 24.
Subs: Rae for Bell 69, Hodgson for Dodds 86.
Bookings: (Y) Parker
Man-of-the-Match: Billy Greulich-Smith
A very disappointing result.
