Shildon Blow Away Bishop’s in Boxing Day Stroll

Shildon AFC made light work of their local rivals Bishop Auckland in the Boxing Day derby at Dean Street.

In front of a big crowd, and with the wind behind them, Shildon dominated play from the kick-off.

After just 4 minutes Lewis Wing thought he had scored, but it was judged off side. Three minutes later Danny Parker’s header hit the bar.

More pressure paid off on 17 minutes when Anth Bell’s corner was headed home by the unmarked Danny Parker.

It was one way traffic and on 35 minutes it was 2 – 0 when a cracking long range shot from Lewis Wing took a slight deflection into the roof of the net.

Shildon put the result almost beyond doubt 5 minutes before the break when Bobby Moore’s defence splitting pass left Lewis Wing bearing down on goal, and the midfielder made no mistake slotting past keeper Edward Wilczyski for 3 – 0.

Half Time:  Shildon AFC  3  Bishop Auckland  0

Kicking with the wind in the 2nd half Bishop’s showed no urgency to get back into the game, but with 15 minutes remaining Shildon’s defence failed to deal with a speculative cross allowing prolific striker Andy Johnson to convert from 8 yards out.

Two minutes later Bishop’s claimed the ball had crossed the line after a scramble in the box, but the referee waved play on.

Shildon saw the game out comfortably and were worthy winners, confirming their dominance over their local rivals. This was their 5th straight league win over the Two Blues.
