Match Report
No Complaints
Shildon AFC travelled to top of the league North Shields FC on Saturday 11th Match 2017 and came away empty handed, but cannot complain after suffering a 3 – 0 defeat. Shields were the better side. They got off to a flying start after just 4 minutes when a free kick from the right along the ground fooled everyone hitting the far post and No. 10 Ryan Carr had an easy tap in.
Shildon came more into the game as it progressed but even with all their possession they hardly troubled Kyle Hayes in goal. He was only called upon once in the first half on 39 minutes when a Lewis Wing shot was pushed away for a corner. Two minutes earlier Shildon’s Stephen Capper headed off the line.
Half Time: North Shields 1 Shildon AFC 0
Shildon dominate possession continued in the 2nd half but Shields defence was solid.
Just after the hour Shildon’s Dan Groves gave a free kick away and Curtis Copper rose high at the back post for 2 – 0 to give Shields some breathing space, as 2 – 0 was a mountain to climb for Shildon.
With two minutes remaining a right wing corner from Michael McKeown found Curtis Copper for another bullet header, his second goal of the game.
Final Score: North Shields 3 Shildon AFC 0
Subs: Moore for Ellison 65, Rae for Bell 72
Bookings: (Y) Bell 44, Moore 75, Rae 86, Wing 90.
Man-of-the-Match: Danny Parker
Shields were tall and strong in defence and sharper than Shildon up front. There was no real passion from the Railwaymen. The Robins have now won their last 14 league games in a row. The league title is between them and local rivals South Shields who they play on Saturday 8th April.
