Match Report

Shildon AFC have all but relinquished their hold on the league championship after a 4 – 4 away draw at Ryhope CW on Tuesday 28th February 2017. The Railwaymen have only picked up two points from their last three games. It is now just about impossible to overcome North Shields and South Shields.

In a seesaw game, in which the lead changed hands four times, both sides had to share the points, but it was disappointing for Shildon who needed to win the game to keep their slight title hopes alive.

After 16 minutes Shildon’s Daniel Moore put through his own goal.

On 32 minutes a great long range free kick from Lewis Wing beat the keeper for 1 – 1.

Just before the break a free kick shot / cross from Matty Robson sailed over the keeper into the net for 2- 1 to Shildon, but two minutes later ex Shildon player Lee Chapman levelled for the home side.

The second half continued in the same way as the first with four more goals, two from each side.

Callum Munroe put Ryhope ahead on 55 minutes, then five minutes later Stephen Capper equalised for Shildon.

Adam Burnicle restored Shildon’s lead before Lewis Dodds gave Ryhope a penalty near the end, which Lee Chapman converted for his second goal of the night.
