Match Report
A Late Winner
Shildon AFC grabbed all three points with a late goal at Moore Lane on Tuesday 20th December 2016 against Newton Aycliffe, whose squad of 16 players on the night contained 10 new signings. Aycliffe looked as though they had battled to a goalless draw until Anth Bell scored with just 2 minutes remaining.
Shildon dominated longs spells of play but didn’t create too many chances in a packed Aycliffe defence. A header from Bobby Moore and another from Lewis Wing both missed the target, and Amar Purewal’s effort was easily saved as he scuffed his shot. The Railwaymen were unlucky on 50 minutes when Bobby Moore’s header hit the bar.
Aycliffe looked to hit Shildon on the break and Peter Jeffries was called upon to punch over Corey Nicholson’s long range free kick.
Just as it looked as though Aycliffe had battled their way to a draw, a right wing free kick way out was hoisted into the box by Anth Bell and was missed by everyone including keeper Phillip Pentony as the ball sailed into the net.
Final Score: Newton Aycliffe 0 Shildon AFC 1
Goalscorer: Bell 88.
Bookings: (Y) Wing 57, Hodgson 61, Bell 90.
Subs: Connor for Purewal 70
Man-of-the-Match: Daniel (Bobby) Moore.
Not a classic, by any means of the imagination, but a win is a win.
