Match Report

Shildon AFC played their first game of five in a row at Dean Street when Seaham Red Star were the visitors on Saturday 18th March 2017, with Shildon claiming all three points with a 2 – 0 win.

However, had Shildon keeper Nick Liversedge not been in fine form, things would have turned out differently. In the 1st half he was called upon to make four great one-on-one saves from Robbie Bird, Nick Kane and two from David Palmer.

With strikers Adam Burnicle, Billy Greulich-Smith and Paul Connor all on the bench, both David Vincent and Amar Purewal were in the starting line up.

Just before the half hour Shildon opened the scoring when Lewis Wing found Amar Purewal who fired low into the middle of the goal.

It was 2 – 0 near the interval when Shildon were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Up stepped free kick specialist Lewis Wing who did what he has done all season, firing into the roof of the net, giving keeper Shaun Newbrook no chance.

Hlaf Time:  Shildon AFC  2  Seaham Red Star  0

There were no more goals in the 2nd half but once again Shildon’s keeper Nick Liversedge was called upon with two more one-on-one saves from Luke Proctor.

For Shildon, David Vincent was through but denied by keeper Newbrook and near the end Paul Connor was also through, rounded the keeper but fired just wide from a tight angle.
