Shildon AFC brought their season to an end on Saturday 22nd April 2017 with a 2 – 1 away win at local rivals West Auckland Town.
After an uneventful start West took the lead on 17 minutes when Ibrahim Hassan’s powerful header from a Ross David Gardner corner gave keeper Nick Liversedge no chance.
Thereafter, however, it was one way traffic as Shildon took control of the game, looking for the equaliser. Although they passed the ball around, they never really troubled the keeper.

Booby Moore came on after the break to liven things up, and just after the hour he fired just over. Shortly after Matty Robson also shot just wide.
It was all Shildon, with seven corners, one after the other.
Their pressure finally paid off with 9 minutes remaining when a long high ball from Lewis Wing put ex West Auckland player Adam Burnicle through for 1 – 1.
Shildon rained down on West goal searching for the winner, and with 4 minutes left Matty Robson was brought down in the box for a penalty. He picked himself up and scored from the spot kick.
In time added on Adam Burnicle should have added to Shildon’s score, but he somehow missed the target.
