Match Report

A comfortable Win

Shildon AFC’s season began on Saturday 6th August 2016 with a very comfortable 6 – 1 home win against Bedlington Terriers in the Extra Preliminary Round of the F A Cup.

The visitors surprisingly took an early lead on just 4 minutes when Marcus Brown easily beat two Shildon defenders and his left foot shot went inside the right post.

Ten minutes later it was all square when Lewis Wing’s free kick from outside the areas gave keeper Dan Mullen no chance.

On 23 minutes goal scoring hero Marcus Brown became villain when the No 11 was red carded for a dreadful tackle on Jamie Harwood.

Down to 10 men it was backs against the wall for Terriers thereafter, and just before the break a long range shot from Sam Hodgson some 30 yards out was palmed in by the keeper for 2 – 1.

Half Time:  Shildon AFC  2  Bedlington Terriers  1

Throughout the 2nd half it was a continuation of the 1st. It was one way traffic with Terriers keeper Dan Mullen having a blinder, saving twice from both Lewis Wing and Lewis Dodds within the first 7 minutes.

Just after the hour David Ferguson’s great free kick from the edge of the box made it 3 – 1. One minute later star man Ferguson scored again with his left foot.

It was like the Alamo, with Ben Wood making it 5 – 1 on 65 minutes, then 2 minutes later Wood was brought down in the box for a penalty which man-of-the-match David Ferguson made no mistake. Shildon had scored 4 times in just 5 minutes, including a hat trick from Ferguson.

Dan Mitton in Terriers goal made several more fine saves from Paul Connor, Ben Wood, Lewis Wing and Mattie Robson to deny the Railwaymen scoring again.
