Match Report

Shildon are Through to the 2nd Round

Shildon AFC are in the draw for the 2nd Round of the F.A. Vase after an uninspiring 4 -1 away win at Litherland Remyca, Liverpool. The Remy’ play in the Northern West Counties League which is a level below Shildon. They are a young side who play for nothing, not even travelling expenses.

Shildon were ahead after 8 minutes when free kick specialist Lewis Wing beat keeper Sean Lake firing into the bottom corner from well outside the box.

Apart from a great shot from Remys No 10 Colin Quick and an equally great save from keeper Nick Liversedge, the rest of the half was disappointing. A very scrappy affair. When the whistle blew a supporter said “Things can only get better”.

Half Time:  Litherland Remyca  0  Shildon AFC  1

It was better in the 2nd half when on 52 minutes Bobby Moore crossed to Micky Rae whose left foot volley crashed into the roof of the net.

Before the hour the Remy’ hit back when Colin Quirk’s cross was headed home by captain Colin McDonald.

Shortly after Shildon restored their 2 goal lead when Sam Hodgson put Anth Bell through and he rounded the keeper and fired into an empty net.

Near the end Lewis Wing scored his 2nd goal of the game.

Final Score:  Litherland Remyca  1  Shildon AFC  4

Goalscorers:  Wing 8, 84, Rae 52, Bell 77.

Subs:  Connor for Rae 67, Greulich-Smith for Bell 77.

Man-of-the-Match:  Lewis Wing

Although it was a comfortable win, the Railwaymen are not playing well. If they play like they did today against stronger opposition they will struggle.
