Match Report
The Railwaymen were knocked out of the Brookes Mileson Memorial Cup away to Div. 2 leaders North Shelds on Wednesday 18th September 2013 losing 1 – 0.
Shildon had most of the possession especially in the 1st half, passing the ball around, but were not able to convert any of their chances. Mark Hudson went close, man-of-the-match Jamie Harwood hit the side netting and later had a header tipped over, all before half time.
North Shields caused problems all night with their counter attacking football, and the only goal of the game came on 66 minutes when a wonderful overhead kick from Kiernan Wrightson flew into the top corner over Shildon’s keeper Lewis Graham.
After 2nd half chances from Sam Garvie, Billy Greulich-Smith and Darren Craddock, Shildon became frustrated not able to hit the target
In the end, Shields could easily have added to their score. Danger man No 9 Gareth Bainbridge was twice through on the break, and Ben Richardson also ran through from inside his own half but fired just wide.
A frustrating night for the Railwaymen who were not able to convert their chances. North Shields are a good side and just about deserved to win on the night.
