Another Draw for the Railwaymen
Shildon AFC is still on top of the league, albeit only on goal difference after they ground out a 1 – 1 draw at Dean Street against Whitley Bay on Wednesday 23rd October. The Railwaymen have only picked up 2 points in their last three games.
The club’s latest signings, Craig Ruddy and Lee Kerr, both from Spennymoor had a run out with Craig Ruddy claiming Man-of-the-Match.
Shildon took an early lead after 8 minutes when Ben Wood picked up a loose ball well outside the penalty area and hit a 25 yard curler into the top right corner, a possible contender for goal of the season at Dean Street.
Shildon were down to 10 men on 26 minutes when Jamie Harwood got his marching orders for brushing into Alex Kempster for a penalty which No 10 Paul Chow converted for 1 – 1. A rather harsh decision, which changed the format of Shildon’s game.
Thereafter, both teams failed to create any scoring chances, as it appeared both teams were not prepared to give up what they already had. In fact the whole of the 2nd half was quite uneventful.
Full Time: Shildon AFC 1 Whitley Bay 1
Goalscorer: Wood 8.
Bookings: (Y) Stephenson 75.
Subs: Hodgson for Connor 29, Kerr for Wood 67, Richardson for Doninger 87.
Man-of-the-Match: Craig Ruddy.
Not the best game in the world to watch, with both teams appearing to be happy with the draw.
