Scholarship Recruiting for New Season

The Shildon SAFC Foundation of Light Scholars are recruiting for the New Season. The open evening is next Tuesday 21st March @ 6pm in the Shildon AFC Social Club.

Foundation of Light’s Football Scholarship gives 16-18 year olds the opportunity to represent Sunderland AFC and gain nationally recognised qualifications through an intensive football and education programme.

Students will study towards a full-time BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport Performance and Excellence under the expert guidance of the Foundation’s Further Education Officers.

In addition to progressing academically, students will compete in the FA National Under 19 Development League against other Premier League and English Football League (EFL) development players.

Working with UEFA A and UEFA B qualified coaches, the football training schedule mirrors that of professional football academies helping bridge the gap between grassroots and elite youth football.

Players have the opportunity to be recruited by professional and semi-professional football clubs; go on to higher education at home or abroad as well as pursuing careers in coaching, sports science, sports journalism or physiotherapy.

Foundation of Light’s Football Scholarship is delivered in partnership with Monkwearmouth Sixth Form Academy, South Tyneside College, Shildon AFC and sponsored by Leading dispensed soft drink suppliers ABCO-Anderson Beverage Company Limited.

Lewis Wing signs pre-contract agreement with Middlesbrough

Lewis Wing signs pre-contract agreement with Middlesbrough

Shildon’s current top scorer Lewis Wing has signed a pre-contract agreement with Premier League Middlesbrough.

This is a fantastic achievement for him and the club wish him all the best with his future career.

As part of the deal Middlesbrough have agreed to play Shildon in a pre-season friendly. In the meantime the agreement enables him to stay at Shildon for the remainder of the season.

Lewis signed for Shildon for the 2015/16 season from Seaham Red Star where he was named runner up Northern League young player of the year after scoring 22 goals. This season he has currently scored 31 goals from Midfield including two hat-tricks in the last three games.

Congratulations from all at Shildon AFC

Chairman’s Update

Chairmans Update

There’s been a lot of changes at Shildon recently. We have a new Management team and in the appointment of Dan Moore, assisted by Mickey Barron, we have one of the most talented young Managers in the Northern League. I am delighted to confirm that Dan has just signed a 3 year contract which gives him some security and the Club some continuity as we take up the challenge to prove the doubters wrong and build a squad which will challenge for honours at whatever level we compete at over the next 3 years and beyond. This process has already begun with the signing of Adam Burnicle on a 2 year contract and the commitment from some of the existing players to next season, most notably Sam Hodgson who has committed his future to Shildon for the next 2 seasons. We have a list of targets and there be  will be some exciting developments  over the close   season.

The Board has a challenge to give Dan a competitive budget and as an entire Club we are up for this. A major sponsor has been retained for the next 3 years and Platinum club members are being secured. We also are looking to strengthen our Board with the appointment of a local businessman. We of course need the support of the town in coming through the gates and this coming season is no different. We are on a journey here and I would ask the local community to get behind us.

Off the field I have commissioned an Architect to look to develop plans for a new  clubhouse and I am hopeful we will be in a position to submit a planning application in the pre season. We are currently appraising tenders for our new stand and subject to confirmation of Football Foundation work we are on course to start building work during the summer with it being completed before Christmas. All of this work establishes our infrastructure which is vitally important to creating a sustainable community Club.

These developments will cost us something in the region of £250,000 and we need the support of everyone to make them happen. There will be a range of sponsorship opportunities that we will present in the near future including a bucket collection around the ground. We are nearly there with these and your support will help us get over the line, so please dig deep!

These are exciting times for the Club, I’m really confident about the future and I look forward to the birth of a new era growing both the Club and the team
