Shildon Secure Three Points on the Road at Kendal Town

Shildon AFC secured a valuable away victory in the Ebac Northern League Division 1 on Tuesday evening, defeating Kendal Town 3-1 in front of 213 supporters.

The long midweek journey to Cumbria proved worthwhile for the Railwaymen, who established a commanding first-half lead before weathering a spirited fightback from the hosts after the interval to claim a fully deserved three points.

First Half

Shildon settled into the contest quickly, enjoying the better of the early exchanges and testing the Kendal defence with disciplined attacking play.

The breakthrough arrived in the 21st minute following an unfortunate error by the home goalkeeper, which allowed Joe Posthill to intercept, race through unchallenged, and stroke the ball into an empty net to open the scoring.

Buoyed by the opener, Shildon pressed forward and doubled their advantage just eight minutes later. In the 29th minute, Posthill turned provider, swinging in a corner that was met cleanly by Billy Greulich-Smith, who powered a header past the goalkeeper.

The visitors effectively sealed the contest just before the break. On 44 minutes, Ben Reay reacted quickest inside the area to latch onto a rebound, driving his effort firmly into the roof of the net to give Shildon a comfortable 3-0 cushion heading into the interval.

Second Half

Kendal Town emerged for the second period with renewed purpose and began to pose more questions of the Shildon backline.

The home side found a route back into the match in the 65th minute when Jamie Looker found space to unleash a well-struck shot that flew into the top corner.

Kendal continued to push for a second to ignite a late comeback, but Shildon goalkeeper Andy Jennison was called upon to make a couple of crucial saves, maintaining his side’s cushion. The visitors managed the remainder of the half professionally, absorbing the pressure and seeing out the remainder of the fixture without further alarm.

Conclusion

This was a professional and disciplined performance from Shildon, built on a clinical first-half display and a resilient defensive effort after the break. The victory adds three important points to the league tally as the side continues its campaign in the Ebac Northern League Division 1.

Shildon will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming fixture against Blyth Town FC.
