Shildon AFC Secure Long-Term Commitment from Hughes and Management Team

Shildon AFC is delighted to confirm that Manager Chris Hughes has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal, committing his future to the Club until the end of the 2028/29 season.

Alongside Chris’s new deal, Shildon AFC is also pleased to confirm that the rest of the management team—Craig Huges, David Pounder and David Howe—have agreed to remain with the Club. Their continued involvement ensures stability and continuity as Shildon AFC strives for success.

Since arriving at Dean Street, Chris has guided the team to success in the Durham Challenge Cup and has overseen the development of a squad that embodies both the pride of the town and the values of the Club.

Speaking after agreeing the new deals, Chris said: “We are delighted to commit to Shildon AFC. The Club is on a clear, positive trajectory with its infrastructure, facilities, and ethos. Since joining, we have built a team that represents the town with pride and reflects the Club’s values. It is a privilege to continue building on the foundations we have laid. With ongoing development off the field, we now have a strong platform to progress to the next step in the football pyramid.

Our aim remains to secure promotion by winning the league this season, and I believe we have a squad capable of achieving that. We are proud of the group we have assembled—their growth as individuals and as a team gives us great pride, and we know there is even more to come in the years ahead.

I would like to thank the Chairman and the Board for their unwavering support over the past three years. We will do everything we can to take the Club to where we all believe it belongs.”

Club Chairman David Dent added:

“I’m delighted that Chris has committed to Shildon AFC. He understands the Club’s values and is a first-class coach. He has created an identity, developed our players, and built the nucleus of a side capable of winning promotion and competing strongly in the Northern Premier League. Let’s hope that happens this season!

We have invested heavily in our infrastructure and have a clear vision and strategy for the future. This Club is now geared for success, and Chris is integral to achieving our ambitions. Just as importantly, I’m thrilled that Craig and the two Davids have also agreed to stay on. They each play a vital role in supporting Chris and driving the Club forward, and their commitment gives us the continuity we need to realise our long-term goals.”
