Shildon AFC is delighted to confirm the signing of experienced defender Nathan McGinley, who joins the Railwaymen following his departure from Whitby Town.
The 29‑year‑old brings a wealth of experience across the English and Scottish professional game, adding further quality and leadership to Chris Hughes’ squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
McGinley came through the academy at Middlesbrough, signing his first professional contract at the Riverside Stadium in 2015. After making his senior debut, he moved to Forest Green Rovers, initially on loan, before earning a permanent deal in January 2019 after impressing as a key part of their side.
In 2020, McGinley made the switch to the Scottish Premiership, joining Motherwell on a two‑year contract and later extending his stay until 2024. His time north of the border also included a loan spell with Partick Thistle in the Scottish Championship.
He returned to England in July 2024 with Spennymoor Town, moving to Whitby Town FC for end of the 2025/26 season
