Shildon Suffer Frustrating Defeat on the Coast at Marske

Defeat for Shildon at the seaside, not the best of performances by Shildon but they still did enough to win the game, a mixture of excellent defending by the home side, missed chances, and bad luck contributed to the defeat.

Marske started well and Shildon couldn’t get the ball from them early on, Shildon grew into the match and missed the first the games first chance before in the 22nd minute Marske went ahead , after poor defending Jey Draper ran through to beat Andy Jennison. The first half was an even affair and ended 1-0.

Shildon improved a lot second half but struggled to play their usual football on the bumpy pitch. Shildon were on top before again poor defending allowed Oscar Mahoney to double Marske’s lead from a corner after 51 minutes.

Shildon piled forward after this and got a goal back through Ben Reay after a scramble in the area.

Shildon continued to push forward and had a very controversial penalty appeal turned down, before a Ben Reay shot hit Alfie Steel on the line and the ball somehow didn’t go in. The home side caught Shildon on the break when Tyler Goodman raced through in the 90th minute to seal the game for Marske, Shildon still had time to get a consolation goal when Alfie Steel ran through in the 97th minute, a very good defensive performance won the game for Marske, the game ending 3-2.
