Shildon AFC are beaten for the first time.
Top of the league Shildon AFC suffered their first defeat of the season in the league after going down 1- 0 against 2nd place Morpeth Town on Bank Holiday Monday 31st August 2015, the goal coming with just one minute remaining.
Shildon could easily have been 3 up in the first 11 minutes. In the 2nd minute a Kyle Fryatt electrifying run found Lewis Wing whose 20 yarder hit the top of the bar with the keeper beaten. A minute later Micky Rae had a great chance with a one on one with the keeper but his shot was weak. On 11 minutes Gary Brown fired just wide.
For Morpeth, No 7 Sean Taylor had a brilliant chance but he shot over from 5 yards.

As an evenly matched 1st half Morpeth looked far more dangerous in the 2nd and as the game went on they got stronger, with Shildon’s Gary Brown and Bobby Moore defending brilliantly.
After 84 minutes Bobby Moore cleared off the line and after more pressure from Morpeth, Gary Brown also headed off the line, but Ben Sayer’s right footer sealed the win for Town on 89 minutes.

A Tense Affair
Shildon AFC played out a tense 0 – 0 draw away to Morpeth Town on Wednesday 15th April 2015.
The Railwaymen have played 60 games so far this season and tonight’s scoreless draw has only happened once previously, at home to Stourbridge in the F.A. Cup in October.
Shildon have 4 games left in the league and if they win them all, they will be crowned champions for the first time in 75 years. The last time Shildon won the league was the 1939-40 season.
Morpeth’s No 9 Steve Anderson brought out a good save from Lewis Graham, before Carl Jones went close with a header going just over the bar. Shildon’s Lee Scroggins dribbled through but fired wide of the post.
Half Time: Morpeth Town 0 Shildon AFC 0
The Railwaymen were on top in the 2nd half with Paul Connor firing wide, before Billy Greulich-Smith put a better chance over the bar.
Near the end Shildon’s keeper Lewis Graham made two great saves from Steve Anderson and Keith Graydon, and with seconds remaining Mark Doninger agonisingly fired over the bar from a Ben Wood cross.
Final Score: Morpeth Town 0 Shildon AFC 0
Subs: Emms for Greulich-Smith 80, Atkin for Harwood 81.
After the match manager Gary Forrest said “This was a tight game. We knew it would be difficult as Morpeth are a good side. I thought we had more chances, but a draw is O. K. as we now know exactly what we have to do to win the league. Win our last 4 matches”.

Shildon failed to take advantage of dropped points by all their title rivals when they too slipped up with a 1-1 draw against lowly Morpeth Town. So it’s as you were at the start of play at the top in the title race:
It’s a very special day for Shildon AFC Supporters Club tomorrow (15 March) as they welcome several local community groups to Shildon’s home Northern League match against Morpeth Town.
The Supporters Club launched the Shildon AFC Supporters Club Lotto, which is drawn weekly, at the beginning of the 2013-14 season. Since its introduction it has distributed over £3,000 in prize money and this week will be distributing its first grant funding to local community groups.
Shildon AFC Supporters Club Chairman, Russell Henderson said: “Tomorrow is a special day and we are delighted to be welcoming seven local community groups, who all successfully applied to our small grants fund, to Shildon’s home match, where they will collect their cheques.
“Putting money back into the local community is our top priority and this is the first time we are able to distribute money from the grant fund, although it won’t be the last. The lottery runs every week, all year round, and the more players there are, the more money we will be able to re-invest back into the local community.
“When new funds are available we will let the community know through local press outlets, but we hope to be able to announce an additional round of funding to coincide with each time the lottery jackpot is won.
“The fund is open to all small local groups and we are especially interested in helping groups who don’t have access to other means of funding such as the National Lottery. Anyone who runs a small group and needs funds for items such as equipment or to fund a group trip, for example, or any other reason is very welcome to apply. The maximum grant a group can apply for is £200 in one year. ”
At tomorrow’s match, the lottery will be distributing over £1,200 in total grant funding to the following local community groups:
Shildon Community Safety
Kay’s Hill Animal Sanctuary
Bishop Auckland Hospital Radio
Prince Bishops Primary School Community Garden
Shildon Community Garden
The Monday Club and
Jubilee Community Centre
The lottery manages a facebook page which contains full details of how to participate and includes a weekly draw announcement immediately after each draw. The page can be found by searching Facebook for Shildon AFC Supporters Lotto or by going directly to facebook.com/safcslotto.
