Shildon Claim Clean Sheet and Three Points on the Road at Blyth Town
Shildon AFC recorded a well-earned 2-0 away victory against Blyth Town in the Ebac Northern League Division 1, watched by a crowd of 180 supporters.
The Railwaymen delivered another resolute performance on their travels, converting their first-half pressure into a lead before sealing the points late on to secure a valuable shutout.
First Half
Shildon controlled the opening period, asserting themselves on the fixture and creating several openings. While the visitors missed a few early chances to break the deadlock, they maintained their attacking momentum.
The breakthrough arrived seven minutes before the interval. In the 38th minute, Jack Blackford met a delivery to dispatch a fine volley into the net, giving Shildon a deserved 1-0 advantage heading into the break.
Second Half
The pattern of the game shifted after the interval as Blyth Town enjoyed a greater share of possession. However, the home side struggled to break down a well-organised Shildon defence, failing to seriously test Andy Jennison in the visitors’ goal.
The contest saw a significant flashpoint when Benji Urwin was denied a clear goalscoring opportunity by a foul from the last defender. The referee ultimately brandished a yellow card to the home goalkeeper, much to the discussion of the travelling contingent.
Shildon weathered the period of pressure and settled any lingering nerves in the 82nd minute. Urwin made certain of the result by netting the visitors’ second goal with a composed finish, capping off an outstanding display.
Conclusion
This was a professional and disciplined away performance, highlighted by a clean sheet, a clinical edge in attack, and a standout individual display from Man of the Match Benji Urwin.
The Railwaymen now move on to a home tie against league leaders Easington Colliery AFC on Tuesday evening.
