Now in his eleventh year at the club, Gary finally got his hands on the Northern League Championship Trophy in 2015/16, as well as retaining the Northern League Cup. Now, having successfully held on to the bulk of last year’s trophy winners, Gary has strengthened the squad with three new signings that will make Shildon one of this season’s title favourites again.

Glasgow-born Stuart was on the books of Ipswich Town for six seasons between 1995-2001 before moving on a free transfer to Barnet and then to Cambridge. After his full-time career he joined the Northern League, playing for Spennymoor, Tow Law, Durham and Shildon, where he is now assistant to Gary. Tactically astute and a keen proponent of playing football on the deck and from back to front, Stuart is the perfect foil for Gary’s measured approach.

Phill is the third man in the management triumverate and the “go to” member of the team for the players. Phill, who played more than 200 professional games for Darlington advocates a more direct approach to play and it is for Gary to mediate between his two assistants and produce a brand of football that makes the best use of both philosophies. As well as managing Shildon, the trio also have a close working relationship in the same business.

Dean will be hoping to have a quieter time of it this year after having at least five players on the treatment table every week last season.
Dean was at the forefront of the campaign to provide potentially life-saving defibrillators at every club in the Northern League after the tragic loss of Shildon director and fan, John Hay.
