Five-Star Shildon Sweep Aside Northallerton

​Shildon secured a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Northallerton on Tuesday evening, claiming a vital three points and a healthy boost to their goal difference. The result caps off an incredible run of form in front of goal, taking Shildon’s tally to 17 goals in their last four matches.

​The hosts flew out of the traps, taking the lead just four minutes in. Jack Blackford navigated his way past three defenders before slotting a low drive into the bottom corner of the net.

​To their credit, the visitors responded well to the early setback and enjoyed a positive spell of possession, forcing Shildon goalkeeper Andy Jennison into a couple of sharp saves to maintain the narrow lead.

​However, Shildon soon reasserted their dominance. On the 20-minute mark, a sweeping move down the right flank found Leighton Harris, who cut inside and unleashed a powerful 20-yard drive to double the advantage. Just four minutes later, another swift attack down the right culminated in Alfie Steel tapping home from close range for number three.

​Before the break, Ben Reay added a fourth, applying the finishing touch to a well-worked team move with a precise strike into the corner from the edge of the penalty area.

​With the game effectively won by half-time, the second period proved to be a more evenly contested affair. Jennison was called into action on several occasions, producing crucial stops to preserve a well-deserved clean sheet.

​Man of the Match Ben Reay rounded off the scoring in the 70th minute. Latching onto a well-timed through ball, he kept his composure to beat the advancing goalkeeper, sealing his brace and wrapping up a highly professional performance.
