Shildon Outclass Stockton to Claim Eighth Durham Challenge Cup Triumph

Shildon produced a performance worthy of a county cup final as they overcame higher‑league Stockton Town to claim the Durham Challenge Cup for the eighth time in the club’s proud history.

The opening 45 minutes were a tense, tactical battle. Both sides probed without finding a breakthrough, and clear chances were scarce. Stockton threatened late in the half, but Shildon goalkeeper Kiaran Hunter stood firm, making two sharp saves around the 40‑minute mark to keep the scores level.

After the interval, the tone shifted. Shildon emerged with renewed purpose, pressing higher, winning second balls, and beginning to carve out opportunities. Their pressure finally told on 70 minutes when Leighton Harris forced the ball over the line to send the travelling support into raptures.

Chasing the game, Stockton threw bodies forward and committed to quick breaks, but that only opened the door for Shildon to counter. Twice the Railwaymen found themselves clean through, only to miss one‑on‑one chances that would have settled the contest earlier.

The decisive moment arrived in the 86th minute — and with a dose of drama. A Stockton defender’s attempted back‑pass was intercepted by Billy Greulich‑Smith, who finished calmly but immediately looked to the officials, knowing he had been in an offside position. After a brief consultation, the referee and assistant ruled that the back‑pass had played him onside. Goal given. Shildon 2–0, and the cup within touching distance.

The final minutes were managed with maturity, and Shildon might even have added a third as Stockton pushed desperately for a lifeline.

When the whistle blew, it sealed not just a superb victory but a landmark day for Shildon AFC.

Shildon Hit Five to Power Past Seaham

Shildon booked their return to the Durham FA ‘Frank Pattison’ Durham Challenge Cup final with a commanding performance at Dean Street, overpowering Seaham Red Star to keep their grip on the trophy they lifted last season.

The hosts controlled the tempo from the opening whistle, pinning Seaham back for long spells, though without carving out many clear chances. Red Star’s resistance held firm until the stroke of half-time, when misfortune struck: Ryan O’Connor, stretching to cut out a pass intended for David Vincent, diverted the ball beyond his own goalkeeper to hand Shildon a deserved lead.  Shildon might have doubled their advantage in added time, but went in at the break with a slender 1–0 cushion.

The pattern continued after the restart, pressure mounting until the breakthrough arrived on 61 minutes. Luke Spalding’s effort forced a save from Shaun Newbrook, but Ciaran Banks reacted quickest to sweep home the rebound.

With Seaham tiring, Shildon turned the screw. Vincent made it 3–0 from close range, then struck again just two minutes later to put the tie beyond doubt. Banks added his second and Shildon’s fifth on 78 minutes, capping a ruthless spell of attacking play.
Seaham did at least leave with a moment to savour. On 86 minutes, Jaydon Grey produced the goal of the night, a fine consolation that briefly lifted the visitors.

But this was Shildon’s evening, and their march back to the Stadium of Light is now confirmed as they continue their defence of the cup.

Ardelaen’s Five-Star Showing Powers Shildon to Cup Triumph

Shildon AFC cruised into the next round of the Durham Challenge Cup with a commanding 9–0 victory over Wearside League side Brandon United at Dean Street on Tuesday night.

Despite fielding a heavily rotated starting XI, the Railwaymen showed no signs of vulnerability, dismantling their opponents with ruthless efficiency. Leading the charge was Andrei Ardelaen, who delivered a scintillating five-goal haul in a man-of-the-match performance that left Brandon’s defence in tatters.

Luke Spalding and Dan Smith each netted twice to complete the scoring, while Shildon could even afford a missed penalty—Brandon goalkeeper Aidan Gill denying Ashton Houlahan from the spot with a fine save.

The tie was effectively over by half-time, with Shildon racing to a 7–0 lead. To their credit, the visitors dug deep in the second half, limiting the damage to just two further goals and showing commendable resilience in the face of overwhelming pressure.
With the cup tie safely navigated, attention now turns to a top-of-the-table clash this weekend as Shildon travel to Guisborough for a pivotal 1st vs 2nd showdown in the league.
