Shildon Remain 4th in the League
Shildon AFC are still 4th in the league after a 2 – 1 away victory at Marske United on Saturday 29th October 2016.
However, the score line was not a true reflection of the game as Shildon should have won by a far greater margin. In fact, Dale Mulligan’s headed goal was Marske’s one and only effort on target for the whole of the game.
Shildon were on the attack from the kick off and after just 6 minutes Micky Rae was clean through but he shot wide. Two minutes later Marske’s keeper Robert Dean’s poor clearance went straight to Micky Rae who lobbed the ball over Dean’s head only for it to hit the bar. It was third time lucky for Micky on 9 minutes when he fired passed keeper Dean.
Anth Bell increased the lead on 25 minutes with a great left foot long range drive.
Just before the interval a right wing corner from Curtis Round was headed in by Nathan Mulligan for Marske.
Half Time: Marske United 1 Shildon AFC 2
Despite Shildon creating several chances there was no more goals in the 2nd half. Billy Greulich-Smith failed to connect and Amar Purewal’s shot was weak. Paul Connor was through and somehow missed. Shortly after he was unmarked and missed again from 6 yards out.
Final Score: Marske United 1 Shildon AFC 2
Goalscorers: Rae 9, Bell 25.
Subs: Dodds for Bell 79, Connor for Rae 79.
Bookings: (Y) Robson 7, Bell 15, Hodgson 48, Wing 78.
Man-of-the-Match: Amar Purewal.
Not the best of games. It was a one sided affair which Shildon should have won easily had they taken their chances. Shildon’s keeper Nick Liversedge didn’t have one save to make.
Shildon will face West Auckland in the next round of the Durham Challenge Cup after beating Ryton & Crawcrook Albion 4-0 at Dean Street.
All 4 goals coming in the 1st Half from Paul Connor, Lewis Wing 2 and Billy Greulich-Smith

Founded in 1959 at St Thomas FC, their early years were predominantly spent playing in local Church leagues. The name REMYCA United was adopted in 1967, having been created through combination of elements from the names of two organisations closely connected with the club – REM Social Club and Bootle YMCA. Progression to the I Zingari League followed in the early 1970s, and it was within that setup that the club was to play its football for the ensuing three decades. A period of considerable success during the 1990s prompted a switch to the Liverpool County Football Combination, although their spell at this level was to remain short lived and a return to the I-Zingari fold soon forthcoming. A 2006 merger between the two competitions led to the formation of the Liverpool County Premier League, with REMYCA being placed in the Second Division of this new structure. The club went on to claim the title in its inaugural season, before further promotion to the Premier Division was achieved in 2010.
The current name of Litherland REMYCA was adopted in 2013, in order to better identify the club with its local area.A successful application to join the North West Counties Football League was subsequently lodged, and they commenced the 2014–15 season in the North West Counties Division One.
