SHILDON v Spraire Lads

Due to FA rules, we are unable to provide details of the result.

Shildon played host to Darlington Spraire Lads, with both sides creating numerous chances.  Their all-round play is showing the good coaching they are receiving.  Jack Leighton was given the man of the match award, however it should be said that there were excellent performances by all the team.

SHILDON v Primrose Hill

Due to FA rules, we are unable to provide details of the result.

Shildon had their regular goalkeeper missing through illness, but Kian Dixon stepped in to produce a good performance.  The team battled well against a larger and more experienced squad, and played some good passing football.  This team is beginning to show what they are capable of and against larger and more experienced teams have coped manfully with the task and have for  long periods been the better team. The corner is turning. Well done lads and lasses.

Man of the match – Callum Griffiths

Shildon still await their first win after a disappointing defeat at home to Mount Pleasant Rangers.

The team were under pressure from the start with a goal from the visitors within the first 5 minutes.  Shildon produced some good chances but were unlucky and failed to score before halftime, with a further 3 from the away side.

A good team talk at the break saw the boys come back with great spirit and their hard work paid off with a goal from Callum Brown.  Mount Pleasant were quick to respond and scored straight from the rebound.  More goals followed but Shildon still piled the pressure on and saw more opportunity with a great corner by Will Dixon, but great defending from the away side kept the ball from the back of the net.  Callum Griffiths got Shildon’s second and final goal from a corner, with the whistle blown just after.

The under 11’s were praised for their performance from the visiting side who said the boys played with heart and determination until the final whistle.

SHILDON  8  0  Great Ayton

Scorers  –  Adam Campbell (2), Noah McCourt (2), Alex Lamb (2) Tom Andelin (1) Ben Oliver (1)

Man of the match – Tom Andelin

The Under 13’s played host to Great Ayton, and produced arguably their best display as a team in 15 months.  After the previous week’s victory, the team started well again, with a couple of good attacks.  However, it was Great Ayton who produced the first effort, with Niall Higham pushing a great effort around the post.  This spurred on the home team, with Adam Campbell racing onto a through ball to calmly slot it just inside the left hand post on 10 minutes.  Almost immediately from the restart, Noah McCourt, making his debut, broke through, rounded the keeper and doubled the advantage.  Ten mins later, a ball over the top saw Tom Andelin clear, and he made no mistake with a calm finish.  The team were now playing some great football, and within a few minutes, McCourt (post) and Campbell (bar) had rattled the woodwork.  On 30 minutes, Ben Oliver got the 4th with a fine finish, and just before the break, Alex Lamb made it 5 with an excellent goal.  Lamb then had time to hit the bar before the half time whistle.  Into the second half, Alex Lamb got his second of the match with another excellent finish, before McCourt got his second on 60 minutes to make it 7.  Adam Campbell rounded off the scoring direct from a corner.

A great team display with the defence really solid, the midfield working hard and a genuine outlet up front.  Tom Andelin picked up the MOTM award, however, there were many candidates.

The Shildon AFC Under 8’s were at home to Newton Aycliffe Youth, and the lads were determined to get a win after last weeks tough game.  They applied the pressure straight away but some solid defending by the opposition stopped them from getting a goal in the first half.  As the half time whistle blew the lads were trailing by 2 goals to none.

As soon as the second half began the lads picked up the pace and some excellent passing allowed Jack Leighton to get Shildon on the score board.  Shortly after Jack got his second goal.  The Shildon defence worked brilliantly to prevent Aycliffe Youth from scoring, they had very few chances at goal in the second half.  With five minutes to go Jake Sharp scored, putting Shildon in the lead.  As the full time was called the score was Shildon AFC 3 – Newton Aycliffe Youth 2.

For the friendly, Shildon played some great football yet again.  They passed the ball better than ever and had a number of shots at goal saved by Aycliffe’s keeper.  Jack Leighton found the back of the net twice.  The final score was Shildon AFC 2 – Newton Aycliffe 2.  Jake Sharp was given the man of the match trophy for a brilliant performance.

Middleton Rangers  5  0  SHILDON

Man of the Match – Kai Chadwick

The U9’s travelled to Middleton Rangers this week and showed they are beginning to see the improvements from the hard work they put into training and in games.  By the opposition manager’s admission, the score line flattered Middleton and wasn’t a true reflection on the team.  It is fair to say that if Shildon played this team three or four weeks ago they would been beaten by a big margin.  Good times are ahead for this small squad of players who never give up.  Kai Chadwick received the mom award who has trained hard since joining the team and got his reward today.

The second game finished 2 -1 to Middleton.  Anth Jary scored Shildon’s goal. New signing James Douthwaite received the mom award who showed real potential in his first outing  for Shildon.

Shildon started off confidently in the first half with heavy pressure put on the away side.  Shots from Shildon’s forward and midfield players were on target but with a stout defence and blocks the score remained 0-0 at half time.  The start of the second half was much the same with Shildon pressing heavily.  After 6mins the pressure finally told as Kane Hopwood scored with a powerful right foot shot.  With 4mins remaining Kane scored again to wrap up the points.  A good performance by all Shildon players on a very wet and windy pitch!!

Scorers – Jack Mortimer (2) Kieran Green (1)

Man of the match – Ethan Smith

Shildon travelled to Darlington All Stars and recorded their first victory of the season.  From the first whistle, the team were on the front foot, and created a number of chances.  Jack Mortimer, who had a superb game, had 2 good efforts on goal before Kieran Green put the team ahead with a fine finish.  More pressure followed with Tom Andelin hitting the bar.  Just before half time, Jack Mortimer doubled the score with a good finish just inside the left hand post.

The early stages of the second half saw All Stars put some pressure on the Shildon defence, but looking more organised, they withstood the attacks, with good tackling and safe goalkeeping.  At the other end, Shildon had more chances, with Jack Mortimer heading in his second of the match following a good cross from Tom Andelin.  More attacks followed, and the woodwork saved All Stars on 3 occasions.  Jack Mortimer also had the chance for his hat trick, but put a penalty just wide of the post.

A great result with the whole team playing their part.

The Shildon Under 8’s were away to Middleton Rangers Saints.

From the off, it was obvious it was going to be a hard game against a very strong side.  Shildon played well, but nothing seemed to go their way.  A very unlucky own goal put MRS in the lead early.  Ben Moore in goal pulled off some excellent saves. The final score was 2 nil to Middleton Rangers Saints.

It was more of the same for the second game.  The lads began to play more positively, and were passing the ball really well.  Will White managed to score Shildon’s only goal of the day.  Middleton Rangers managed to win 3-1.  James Plews was awarded the man of the match trophy.

Man of the match – Anth Jary

This was the U9’s second defeat in as many weeks.  However the team’s determination was strongly evident throughout.  Shildon lost there goalkeeper early in the game and faced an uphill battle from then on.  Anth Jary scored Shildon’s goal and received the MoM award for the second week running.  In the second half Shildon were the better team but the goals just weren’t coming.

In the second game, Cole Layfield resumed playing outfield as Shildon’s keeper had recovered and scored a well executed goal from a tight angle. Anth Jary added a second in the second half.  The final score Shildon 2 Kirk Merrington 7.

This team is learning all the time and are confident they will be back to winning ways sooner rather than later.  If they keep improving throughout the team as they have been the results will come.

Scorers – Kane Hopwood (1) James Rusby (1)

Shildon progressed to the next round of the league cup after beating higher league opposition for the second time.  After a bright start from Shildon, Middleton Rangers came into the game resulting in end to end chances.  Shildon took the lead following a smartly placed free kick from Kane Hopwood.  In the 2nd half Middleton equalised with a good shot to the near post.  Just as extra time was looming Shildon’s pressure told and following a throw in from James Rusby to a crowded box Shildon scored the 2nd goal.

Outstanding play by all, especially Shildon’s defence who were under continuous pressure from Middleton Rangers.

Shildon under 11’s are still fighting for their first win after they failed to deliver on this occasion against a strong Seaton Carew side.  The boys played one of their best performances to date, with plenty of opportunities, however the home side’s goalie was on top form ensuring a clean sheet.

Having started the season with only 8 players, Shildon under 11’s have gained 3 new players in the last few weeks and the team are starting to show great improvements as they adjust to their new positions.

Next week the team take on Eaglescliffe, who like us, are fighting for their first win.  This should should make an interesting game.

Shildon travelled to Eaglescliffe Elementis, who are 2 leagues higher, for a challenge cup tie.  From the start, Shildon’s defence were under pressure, unable to handle the constant runs from midfield and balls over the top, and a combination of good goalkeeping by Niall Higham and poor finishing ensured the tie wasn’t out of sight early on.  Elementis finally got the breakthrough and doubled their lead very quickly.  Shildon hit back with a fine finish from Ben Oliver.  Into the second half, Elementis extended the lead again, before Jack Mortimer reduced the arrears.  With the tie in the balance, Elementis turned the screw and scored a further 8 goals without reply.

SHILDON 11  1   Darlington TSC

Scorers – Jack Leighton (6) Jack Milner (3) Ben Moore (1) Jake Sharp (1)

Man of the match – Jack Leighton

The Shildon Under 8’s played at home against Darlington TSC.  After losing their last couple of games the boys were keen to get underway and Jack Milner set the pace in the first two minutes of the game by firing in two great goals.  Some great, attacking football was played with the forwards playing really well together.  The few times that the ball was in Shildon’s half the defensive team were rock solid, nothing got past them. Three superb goals from Jack Leighton put the Shildon boys five goals to nil at half time.

Shildon continued to dominate in the second half, and the goals just kept on coming.  Jack Leighton found the net a further three times, Jack Milner scored another two and Jake Sharp and Ben Moore each had one.  Darlington managed to score a single goal making the final score 11-1 to the Shildon boys!

The full nine Shildon players took to the pitch for the friendly and it was more of the same. Jack Leighton scored three goals and Jack Milner, Will White, Ben Moore and Jake Sharp all found the back of the net.  The final score was  8 0 with Jake Baldwin gaining the man of the match trophy.

Hartlepool St Francis  10  1  SHILDON

Scorers – Michael Gaffney

The U9’s travelled  to Hartlepool this week with only 7 available players and faced a formidable St Francis, who had a large squad to choose from.  This was always going to be hard game under the circumstances, but to the credit of the players they started well, however, they were two behind in quick succession.  Shildon pulled a goal back  soon after but with St Francis having the ability to roll on fresh legs the writing was on the wall.  Every Shildon player fought hard but as they tired St Francis gained the advantage with a final score of 10 1.

In the second match Shildon played a well deserved one all draw.  The man of the match for the second match was Ashley Jardine who has made good progress since making the step up to the U9’s.  The new team faced there stiffest test yet today but kept there heads up and never gave in.  Well done all and keep improving.

Newton Aycliffe Youth  3  2  SHILDON

Scorers – Kane Hopwood (2)

Man of the match – Owen Burke

Shildon travelled to local rivals Aycliffe Youth, and were on the wrong end of some disappointing refereeing decisions.

Shildon started brightly, and were unlucky not to score on several occasions.  Mid way through the first half, Aycliffe went ahead via an own goal.  Early in the second half, Shildon levelled the match with a good shot from Hopwood.  This was shortly followed by a hotly contested penalty award to Aycliffe, which was duly dispatched.  Shildon upped the game again and Hopwood got his second of the match to draw the teams level again.  As Shildon piled on the pressure for the winning goal, a seemingly clear hand ball was missed by the ref and Aycliffe took full advantage as they scored.

In the friendly match, Shildon got some revenge with a 5-1 victory

Shildon played host to Greatham B, in what proved to be a very evenly matched game.  The first half had a few chances for both teams, with Tom Andelin shooting just wide of the left hand post Cain Smith outstanding in the heart of Shildon’s defence.  Greatham finally took the lead just before the interval, to go in 1-0.

A few minutes into the second half, Greatham extended their advantage as they broke clear of the offside trap and gave the keeper no chance, to make the score 2-0.  Shildon started to apply pressure and had a number of corners, from which they almost scored, with Greatham clearing off the line.  They finally got the reward for persistence when Jack Mortimer slotted the ball into the far corner.  Greatham responded and scored what was to prove to be the winning goal.  Shildon came fighting back though, and Jack Mortimer scored his second with a great free kick from the edge of the box.  A number of chances came Shildon’s way in the dying minutes but they just couldn’t convert.

Shildon U8’s played away to Norton and Stockton Ancients.  Both teams were very evenly matched from the outset with some good football being played.  Norton had an early shot at goal but hit the crossbar and Shildon also had some good attempts, saved by the oppositions keeper. The score was nil nil as the 1st half ended.

Norton scored the only goal of the game very early in the second half.  Shildon picked up the pace after this but nothing seemed to go their way. The Shildon forwards created some good chances but unfortunately they just couldn’t score.  The Shildon defence worked hard to stop Norton getting any more goals and the game ended 1 nil to Norton.

As normal Shildon seemed to grow in confidence as the friendly game got underway.  The lads played some great football and Jack Leighton scored early in the game.  Jack Milner scored Shildon’s second goal with an excellent corner kick.  Norton picked up the pace and scored 3 goals past Shildon and went on to win the game 3 – 2.  Jack Milner was awarded man of the match.

The newly formed U9’s continued their development on Sunday at home to a well organised Darlington TSC.  In the first half Shildon were slightly off the pace and went behind from a good move by Darlington.  Jamie Donohue pulled several good saves to keep Shildon in the game. Shildon fought hard and were unlucky to go 2 behind before the break.  Shildon came out for the second half ready and started taking the game to Darlington.  They were the better team for long periods and got there rewards through a goal from Anthony Jary who doubled his tally five minutes later from a  good passing move by the whole team.  Shildon could have snatched victory several times but the Darlington goal was having a charmed life.  The  game ended honours even and well deserved . You can see the improvement week on week from
this team who are gaining in confidence all the time.

In the second game Shildon used the time to try players in different positions and scored 2 goals through Cole Layfield and Anhony Jary.
Well done Jamie Donohue, Kai Chadwick, Caytlyn Lawton, Micheal Gaffney, Anthony Jary, Cole Layfield, Ashley Jardine and Kian Dixon.

Scorers – Jacob Race (2) James Rusby (1)

Man of the match – Jacob Race

A bright start from Shildon with Jacob Race having early chances to put Shildon in front, but Darlington’s keeper made some great saves. Darlington came back into the game after a slow start but were unable to break down a solid Shildon defence, with some great tackles from Ben Hopper.  The first goal of the game came from Darlington, a good cross from the right was turned in at the back post leaving Owen Burke Shildon’s keeper with no chance.  More pressure followed from Shildon but Darlington’s keeper continued to impress.

A great start to the second half for Shildon, great work by Kane to skip past 2 defenders and his shot was saved only to fall to Jacob who produced a calm finish.   Shildon continued to push with Kane at the centre of the of the moves, shortly after his 1st goal Jacob added a 2nd with a great half volley from just inside the box.   Against the run of play Darlington scored with a long range shot.  Shildon hit straight back again with great work by Kane down right which James Rusby finished at the back post.  Darlington’s 3rd was a powerful shot with a good attempt to save from Owen.

A good all round team effort.

A difficult start to the season away to one of the fancied teams, as well as missing a few of the team’s influential players, was made even harder by a disappointing refereeing performance (the senior team don’t have a monopoly on disappointing refs :().

The team went in to the half time break 8-0 down, with Gary working overtime to pick the lads up.  To their credit, they came out and had a good go at it.  A number of chances came the teams way, with Ben Oliver just sliding one past the post and Jack Mortimer bringing a good save out of the keeper.  Jack got his reward for his endeavours, latching on to a through ball to slip it past the goalkeeper, despite the despairing efforts of the full back.  Shildon’s second goal came after a Mortimer free kick on the edge of the box was parried by the goalkeeper, and Blake Milner managed to squeeze the ball into the net from the byline.

A great deal of credit must go to the whole team who conceded 14 goals overall, 5 down to the ref not playing the offside rule, and 1 bundled in with a hand, yet they kept going right till the final whistle.

Scorers – Ben Moore (1) Jack Leighton (1)

Man of the match – Ben Moore

The Shildon Under 8’s second fixture of the season was at home to Seaton Carew Juniors.  Both teams seemed to be evenly matched and some great football was played.  An early goal from Seaton Carew spurred the Shildon boys on and Ben Moore soon put Shildon on the scoreboard. Jake Sharp, taking a turn in goal, made some great saves and the Shildon defence, Will White, James Plews and Ben Mortimer, was solid, with Ben going from strength to strength.  After an equalizer from Jack Leighton, the first half ended with a score of 2 all.

The weather got worse as the second half got underway, the Shildon boys seemed to struggle but fought on as Seaton Carew took more goals.  The rest of the match just never seemed to go their way, despite the best efforts of Ben Moore, Jack Milner and Jack Leighton up front.  As the final whistle went Shildon were beaten 6-2.

For the friendly match, the full nine Shildon players took to the field and played incredibly well in a much more evenly paced game.  However, Seaton Carew seemed to make more of their chances and they won 4-2.  Callum Roe got the man of the match trophy for a cracking performance in defence.

Man of the match – Anth Jary

The extra training over the week for the team paid off at Darlington RA.  The U9’s got their passing game going from the outset and went ahead in the first minute through Anthony Jary.  Cole Layfield doubled the lead 2 minutes later.  RA pulled one back in the 8th minute and would have scored another but a fine save from Jamie Donohue ended the threat, but Shildon had all the play from then on.  Micheal Gaffney was strong on centre midfield and the defence pairing of Caytlyn Lawton and Kai Chadwick is getting better with each game and were in no mood to let anyone past.  Micheal Gaffney restored the goal advantage a minute later before Cole Layfield bagged his second before half time.

The second began with Shildon again dominating.  Cole Layfield scored a wonderful free kick and Kian Dixon scored soon after.  Cole Layfield’s 4th of the game rounded the game off well.

The second game kicked off with Ashley Jardine showing some good passes and timely tackles.  The game ended 3-1 to RA  but nothing could take the shine off Shildon’s first match performance.

Well done lads and lasses.

Scorers – Kane Hopwood (2) James Rusby (1) Ellie Geary (1)

Man of the match – Jacob Race

Shildon advanced to the next round of the league cup after a hard fought win against a higher league team.  Kicking off in poor weather conditions, Shildon withstood heavy pressure for the first 5mins and excellent goalkeeping from Owen Burke with 2 outstanding saves kept Hardwick at bay.  10 mins into the game Ellie Geary scored with a right foot shot after a good team effort down the right wing.  2mins later Kane Hopwood doubled the lead.  A late hard tackle by Hardwick left Shildon’s Alex Foster injured and substituted.  This disruption led to Hardwick pulling a goal back.

At the start of the 2nd half, some excellent defending by Shildon kept the opposition frustrated, and after a disallowed goal from the home team, some neat play led to Kane Hopwood scoring again.  Then a corner ball by Jacob to the edge of the box was controlled by James Rusby and volleyed into the bottom corner.  The celebrations were short lived as Hardwick played the ball to the other end to score.

A very good team effort by all the Shildon players meant a home win.

However, he was quickly put under pressure by the away team, who went on to score two, making it 4-4.

Man of the Match – Adam Campbell / Niall Higham

Shildon AFC  Under 13s played the first game of the season at Dean Street , home of the 1st team . The opposition Fishburn Park are 3 leagues above, but that did not stop Shildon going all out.  Shildon started the brightest and were on the attack almost immediately.  Shildon came close to opening the scoring with Jack Mortimer shooting wide .  The first 15 mins, Shildon were in control with shots raining on the away keeper, with Fishburn only having one shot, which was restricted  to outside the 18 yard box, an easy save for Shildon keeper Niall Higham.  Fishburn started to put a little more pressure  on the defence but Shildon soaked it all up, with the centre back Cane Smith outstanding.  Fishburn Park came into the game a bit more and some great saves by the Shildon keeper was needed.  Eventually, the breakthrough came and Fishburn took the lead.

The second half started and more of the same from Shildon with Tom Andelin and Adam Campbell playing some lovely 1-2s down the line.  Unfortunately, Fishburn turned the screw a little bit more and then the goals came for them.

Shildon played a great game and the two managers Gary Robinson and Dave Smith could not have asked for anything more than the team gave in terms of effort. The progress from the team has been fantastic and the Shildon community  came to show their support as well.
