Shildon V Whitley Bay Match Preview, 9 March 3pm

Is it a four in a row?

Shildon AFC are looking for a fourth home win on the trot when former FA Vase winners Whitley Bay visit Dean Street this Saturday.

Whitley Bay, who are currently 16th in the league, will be looking for revenge on their visit to Shildon, a fixture rearranged from February, when the pitch was frozen.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides this season and follows Shildon’s double in the last campaign. In March we were 2-1 victors at home followed by a 6-0 away win in April.

Manager Daniel Moore revealed David Palmer is a doubt due to injury but Dale Mulligan came through training during the week so he will be available. Some of the younger talent will also be making an appearance.

Last Saturday saw Shildon AFC notch home a third victory of the season over second placed Consett with a 3-0 win.

Moore said: “We just need to keep building on the recent form we have had and the aim is to finish the season strong and not lose any games between now and the end of the season”.

“I was pleased with a clean sheet against Consett who are a team that like to attack and we took our goals well” He went on to say “I was pleased with the energy and fitness of the players especially after a tough semi final on Tuesday”.

Shildon fundraiser a winner with locals

SHILDON AFC’s kit lady raises over £2,000, in memory of her late partner, for great causes, including the club where he was a director.

The event which took place on Saturday 9 February at Elm Road Club, Shildon proved to be a massive hit with more than 120 of the local community enjoying 1960’s and 70’s music, from the ‘Travillin Band’.

Susan Charlton organises the annual charity night which this year raised over £2,000 for Diabetes UK, Prosthetic Limb Centre, James Cook Hospital and the football club.

Miss Charlton’s late partner and Shildon AFC director John Hay, 69, collapsed and died while he watched his beloved Shildon AFC play Seaham Red Star in a Durham County Challenge Cup game in January 2013.

Mrs Charlton is planning to hand over the money to the groups at Shildon AFC’s presentation night on 4 May.

She said: “I just loved doing the fundraising and everyone has supported us. It makes me so proud to be part of this community.  We had 118 raffles, 31 auction and 210 tombola prizes donated which was just brilliant”

Diane Dent, treasurer of Shildon AFC, said: “On behalf of the football club I’d like to thank Sue, she’s an absolute star. John was a big part of the club. I think that what Sue is doing is absolutely fantastic and it’s keeping him alive in the football club.”
