Shildon AFC have signed a contract with local builder Westholme Construction to develop new changing facilities at Dean Street.
The facility will be constructed in line with FA Ground Grade D standards and will provide changing facilities for home and away teams together with accommodation for both male and female officials.
The Club have submitted a bid to the Football Foundations Football Stadia Improvement Fund and hope to secure funding towards the scheme. Work will start on site on 4 January 2022 and is scheduled to be complete before the new season starts, replacing the existing facilities which will be repurposed into a medical room and toilet facilities.
Chairman David Dent said “ These works are a requirement for the Club to continue to play at this level and I’m delighted to enter into contract with Westholme who have impressed throughout the tendering process and who alongside Buildbase have offered the Club a price which represents excellent value for money. That said, it represents the biggest investment in the history of the Club and along with our perimeter barriers and community garden represents a sign of the Clubs ambitions and intent to engage with the local community “
Ray Glasper, Director of Westholme Construction, said: “We are all really excited to have been trusted to work with Shildon AFC and deliver this fantastic development for the team and their fans. They are such an important part of the local community, we look forward to being able to deliver this project to the highest standards knowing it will allow the club to continue their journey in the league and let everyone at the club focus on their fantastic progress on the pitch.”
Based in Darlington, Westholme Construction provides ground works, construction and maintenance works for both commercial and domestic customers. Their team of experts manages the whole construction process; from initial planning through, to complete builds for residential extensions to larger, multi-phase developments.
As you would expect with the this type of works there will be a section of the ground adjacent to the current changing portacabins that will be unaccessible (see below), this will not detract from the match day experience but please be mindful of the works (along with existing works on the community garden) and the fences surrounding them.
