MATCH PREVIEW | Whitley Bay v Shildon Match Preview, 5th October 3pm by Josh Hart
Shildon return to league action against Whitley Bay.
Following a 2-0 win away at Willington in league cup group F, the Railway Men will be looking to continue the fine football displayed, as they take a trip to Hillheads Park to face 16th placed Whitley Bay.
Shildon, who currently sit 6th in the league, will be hoping to finally secure all 3 points following an indifferent set of results in recent weeks.
The victory at Willington will, however provide Daniel Moore’s men with confidence of securing back to back away wins, which could in-turn see the Railway Men jump to 4th in the league.
A 3-1 victory for Shildon when the sides last met at Hillheads park, will be a result manager Daniel Moore will be looking to replicate this Saturday.
Although Manager Moore will be prioritising a win first and foremost, The Railway Men will be hopeful of securing a second clean sheet in four days against a Whitley Bay side that have netted just 12 times in the league this season.
With Shildon currently being the leagues second highest scorers (29 league goals) a clean sheet could go along way to increasing the Railway Men’s goal difference – something which could prove critical come the end of the season.
A win would see Shildon move onto 21 points, potentially leaving the Railway Men just a point off both second placed Stockton Town and third placed Consett (with 2 games in hand).
Final Score | Shildon 3 Penrith 2
Shildon moved to 3rd in the table with a 3-2 victory over Penrith at Dean Street.
Despite Shildon having most of the play in the first half it was Penrith who opened the scoring after 37 minutes. Shildon goalkeeper Matty Bancroft was adjudged to have taken down a Penrith attacker in the box and Martyn Coleman stepped up to place the ball to the goalkeepers right.
3 minutes later Danny Craggs leveled to send the teams in at half time level at 1-1
In the 57th minute Shildon were given a penalty and Nathan Steel converted to give Shildon a 2-1 lead. However the lead only lasted 8 minutes as Martyn Coleman scored his second.
As the game looked like the points would be shared, Aidan Heywood struck a speculative shot from outside the box and Danny Craggs managed to divert the ball under the Penrith goalkeeper to give Shildon the points.

Shildon V North Shields Match Preview, 23 March 3pm
Shildon looking to return to winning ways
By Ashley Brighton
Shildon will look to continue their unbeaten run as they welcome a high scoring North Shields side to Dean Street this Saturday, in a game that promises excitement.
The Railway men are unbeaten in all competitions since their 2-0 victory over Hartlepool in the semi-finals of the Durham Challenge Cup back in February.
A run that manager Daniel Moore is keen to continue after challenging the players to see out the remainder of season undefeated.
So far, the players have responded well to the manager’s challenge, despite a disappointing result home to Whitley Bay, drawing 2-2.
However, the Shildon boss still felt there was cause for celebration looking ahead to the remainder of the season.
He said, “I was, and the players were disappointed to only take a point out of the game last week against Whitley Bay, even though we had 10 men for the majority of the game, so that says a lot about the character and desire to win”.
Saturday’s matchup also is an opportunity for Shildon to leap-frog their opponents up into 7th place ever closer to the top six and the boss has not underestimated the importance a win may have.
“Tomorrow is a big game if we want to finish in the top six, we have to win, simple as that”.
Shildon currently sit two behind the away side as well as having a match in hand. The Railway men come into Saturday’s fixture with little in the way of selection concerns, the only notable absentee being forward Zac Atkinson who misses out through suspension.
