Shildon AFC are delighted to confirm that following a Football Association and Northern Premier League inspection last week the Club has achieved Ground Grading 4 (formerly Grade D). This means we are fully compliant with all the requirements of the grading which is essential in maintaining our presence in the Northern Premier League East.
The Club were complimented on the excellent changing facilities for home/away players and officials and were commended on the work completed on the community garden as well as the newly installed toilets and medical room.
Chairman, David Dent said: “This represents a massive achievement for the Club and the town. People don’t appreciate that to play at this level demands serious investment on and off the pitch and we’ve achieved this. We’ve now got a platform to compete at this level for many years to come and I’ve every confidence that we will.”

Following the shock resignation of Ian Clark, Shildon AFC are pleased to reveal their interim management structure. Former Player, Chris Hughes has accepted the position of First Team Manager for the rest of the season, when the position will be reviewed. Chris will be supported by Alex White who will be Player Coach, whilst Chris and the Club actively look to reinforce the management team over the coming weeks.
Chris said “Thank you to the players, supporters and board members who have made me feel welcome since I returned to the club. I am really looking forward to continuing the work that has been started with the players. It is important we have some consistency for the club now so that we can get the results we need to move up the table. In the short time I have been back at Shildon, it is clear to see there is a strong group of players who want to do well for the club. It is important we use their togetherness and abilities to build on Tuesday night. All of the focus is now on getting a positive result this weekend.”
David Dent, Chairman of Shildon AFC said “ This has been an unsettling 48 hours for everyone at the Club. I’m absolutely delighted therefore that Chris feels now is the time for him to step up into this position to take the Club forward. I’ve known him for a number of years, founded the Clubs Development Centre with him, seen him progress from player, to coach and latterly to Assistant Manager and feel it’s time for him to have the opportunity to manage the Club. He’s an A licence Coach, was highly thought of at Middlesbrough FC’s Academy, he has the respect of the players, but more importantly he has integrity and I trust him implicitly. I know he believes in the Club’s development plan and is here for the right reasons. Now is the time for stability, Chris will therefore get the backing of myself and the Board, and the resources at his disposal to establish ourselves within the NPL this season and hopefully he will continue in the role for many years to come.”

The Northern Premier League has a bright future after striking up a deal with Wiseman Lighting to become its official lighting partner.
Wiseman are the leaders in setting new standards in sport lighting and were the first installers of LED sports floodlighting in the UK.
They work with clubs at all levels to deliver projects from inception to completion, including supporting clubs with sustainable and innovative financial solutions.
NPL chairman, Mark Harris, said: “We’ve been looking for a lighting partner for some time. Every year, we do a survey with all of our clubs to find out from them what sort of partnerships would meet the demand and lighting came very high this year.
“We have been looking for the right type of company over the years and we think Wiseman’s is a perfect fit.
“It is beneficial to absolutely everybody. Our clubs benefit from superb service in terms of floodlight inspections, but more important the necessary guidance towards funding availability for LED systems and upgrades.
“From a league perspective, it is a great brand to be involved with and we look forward to growing it over many years.”
The deal was officially launched ahead of Atherton Collieries’ home game with Nantwich Town on Tuesday night, the first league game played under the new lights that Wiseman have installed at the Skuna Stadium.
A number of other NPL clubs have already also made enquiries with the new lighting partners.
Colls chairman, Paul Gregory, said: “Wiseman came recommended by the FA, we knew we needed new lighting and everything moved on quickly. They’ve been an absolutely brilliant company to deal with from start to finish.
“I can’t believe what a difference the new lights have made. Before them it was a bit like watching football through a stocking! I would recommend Wiseman to every club in the football pyramid, they have been a fantastic company to work with, innovative and thoroughly professional.”
Wiseman was established in 2013 by Harry Riste, who has more than 30 years experience in the industry.
They have installed LED floodlights across the football pyramid, as well as in other sports such as rugby, athletics, hockey and tennis.
On the partnership announcement, Harry Riste said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with the Northern Premier League who’s ambitions to help and support their member clubs are aligned with our own business aims. The exceptional quality of the LED product we offer alongside our high level of support will allow clubs in the NPL to transition to the latest floodlighting technology with ease.”

ENDS
We go into the new season as a Northern Premier League Club for the first time in the Club’s history. I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved both on the pitch and off it.
You just have to take a look at Dean Street now and you will see the improvements to the ground with more planned over the coming months. We are truly a community club and next week we host children at Dean Street for our holiday activity course which we provide free of charge. There will have been a coffee morning at the Club during the week, and we are holding a charity day on Sunday 8 August for Team Solan. These events will be built upon when our Community Garden is completed.
On the pitch we’ve kept all of our key players and have made some quality additions to the squad , who have experience of playing at levels above where we are about to play. That’s a sign of our ambition.
We’ve taken Shildon AFC to a level that I believe that we can comfortably compete at and we can take it further but only if the Shildon public get behind the team. We’ve kept this Club alive during the pandemic and now it’s your opportunity to help us take Shildon as far as we can.
We need more volunteers around the Club and if you feel that you have something to offer then please get in touch. We have a loyal following who are second to none but we need more supporters to come through the gates. We need over 300 supporters in the ground at every game to sustain ourselves at this level and more for us to progress through the leagues. This is certainly achievable.
Thank you all of you who support us already, it’s appreciated by everyone associated with the Club. I’m really excited for the season to start and the improvements to our ground to be completed. I’m delighted that you our fans can watch us play again so let’s go forward together and make this season one to remember.
David Dent, Chairman
