Shildon fans have the chance to win this splendid framed print by local artist Eric Thompson of kids trying to bunk over the Dean Street fence – and the local bobby fast approaching.
Eric, who grew up on the Jubilee Fields estate and now owns the Bondgate Gallery in Bishop Auckland, has based the painting on his own childhood experiences in the 1950s. Part of the Shildon 125 exhibition which opens at Old Shildon Workmen’s Club on Saturday July 1, it will be the star prize in a draw among all who become a Friend of the Durham Amateur Football Trust (DAFT) before the end of July.
“Friends” pay a £5 annual membership for which they receive a regular newsletter but which chiefly goes towards supporting DAFT’s work in celebrating the golden age of amateur football and the game and its Co Durham clubs today.
