DCC QUARTER FINAL | Shildon 6 Consett 1

Shildon are into the semi final of the Durham Challenge Cup with a 6-1 victory over Consett at Dean Street.

In the squad were 9 players under the age of 21 with 17 year old Mason Hurworth impressing from the start.

Ben Trotter (9 mins) opened the scoring with a header from a Matty Robson only for Luke Carr to equalise after 22mins. Brad Hird was then fouled in the box and Billy Greulich-Smith restored the advantage.

In the second half David Palmer added the 3rd, Brad Hird the 4th and Nathan Steel the 5th. Steven Johnson then produced some great play to beat his man and set up Ben Trotter to finish the scoring.

Shildon move up to 6th with a 3-2 victory at home to Seaham Red Star.

Nathan Steel scored twice in 2 minutes to give Shildon the perfect start within 10minutes. Ben Trotter then added a third just before half time.

In the second half Curtis Coppen scored and then Paul Gardiner further reduced the deficit to 3-2. Coppen was then sent off for a second yellow card.

Goalkeeping Coach | Bryan Wood

We are pleased to announce that Bryan Wood will be taking up the position of Goalkeeper Coach, with immediate effect.
Bryan has become a great addition to the club since he first joined, both on the field and off. He has demonstrated he is an accomplished goal keeper before recently suffering an injury resulting in a few months on the side line.  Overall he is a great player to have around the club and his attitude and professionalism is exemplary.

Bryan has expressed his pleasure in being chosen for the role stating :

“I’m relishing the opportunity of working alongside a brilliant management team in Daniel and Mark. This is a fantastic opportunity for me and means I put my Football Coaching and Performance qualifications to good use”

Shildon took all 3 points away to league leaders Consett

Zak Atkinson scored his first goal for the club since his move from Ashington after 2 minutes to give the visitors the perfect start.

Billy Greulich-Smith scored his 5th goal in his last 6 games to seal the win after 66mins heading in from a few yards out. Nathan Steel could of made it 3 but former Shildon stopper Kyle Hayes saved in the 92nd minute.

ENL1 RESULT | Newcastle Benfield 1 Shildon 3

Shildon came from a goal down to beat Newcastle Benfield at Sam Smith’s park.

Dale Pearson gave Newcastle Benfield the perfect start after 2 minutes with a volley from 20 yards that flew into the top corner of the net.

Shildon then had a few chances in the first half with new signing Zak Atkinson twice going close and Brad Hird with a header from close range.

Straight from the restart Shildon were level when Atkinson went down the right and crossed for Hird to level from close range.

Billy Greulich-Smith then went through the centre of the Benfield defence to make it 2-1 after 65 mins.

Nathan Steel finished the scoring in the 88th minute with a neat turn and finish to cap a very good team performance.

This allows the under 18’s to play league matches as well as train with the first team to help them develop as players and develop their skills.

NEW SIGNING | Zak Atkinson from Ashington

We are pleased to announce that Zak Atkinson has agreed terms and will be joining the first team from this Saturday

The striker joins us from Ashington FC and has had spells with Blyth Spartans, Bedlington and Rutherford AFC, having trained at Middlesbrough Academy.

“I have been very impressed by the professionalism of everyone connected with the club and Shildon have a fantastic reputation, I feel that this is the right move and I am delighted to sign”

ENL1 RESULT | Shildon 3 Ryhope CW 4

Shildon started 2019 with a 4-3 defeat to Ryhope CW and finished the game with 9 men.

Northern League Top Scorer James Ellis gave Ryhope the lead after 19mins with an excellent strike into the top corner of the net from the edge of the box.

Aidan Heywood brought Shildon level firing into the top of the net after 37mins and so it stayed to half time.

Ellis doubled his and Ryhope’s tally with a penalty to the right hand bottom corner after 54mins. Billy Greulich-Smith levelled the scores again after 63mins with a well taken goal.

Mickey Rae then scored two further penalties the second of which saw Marc Ellison gets his second yellow after a foul on a Ryhope attacker.

With 3 minutes left Brad Hird scored after a scramble in the box to give Shildon hope, but, in the aftermath of the goal, Daniel Moore was sent off trying to retrieve the ball from the goalkeeper.
