Shildon 3 Durham City 0

A Good Solid Team Performance

Shildon AFC are now four points clear at the top of the league after beating Durham City 3 – 0 at Dean Street on Wednesday 16th September 2015. However, three teams have games in hand over Shildon and if they win them all they will go above the Railwaymen.

Durham started strongly with Shildon defenders making three great blocks one after the other.

The home side opened the scoring on 15 minutes when Man-of-the-Match Ben Wood’s curling 20 yarder gave keeper Thomas Flynn no chance.

Just before the interval it was 2 – 0 when Billy Greulich-Smith fired low into the bottom corner.

Half Time:  Shildon AFC  2  Durham City  0

In the second half Shildon’s Gary Brown and Carl Jones defended brilliantly, not allowing Durham any real scoring opportunities.

It was quite an uneventful half until Ben Wood broke through on 74 minutes scoring on his second attempt. Near the end Wood missed two chances to complete his hat-trick.

Shildon U18’s selected for Durham County Under 18’s

7 Shildon AFC players have been selected to represent Durham County U18s this season.

It is great to see the players being recognised for their performances so far this season.  It is also important to recognise the quality of the rest of the squad as we know a few others are capable of making the squad and as the season goes on we hope they get the opportunity.

We are sure the players would be the first to thank the management team, lead by manager Bill Harper, for their hard work and guidance over the years.

The Players are: –
Harris Saunders
Euan Anderson
David Vincent
Ryan Beston
Joe Mole
Joe Spooner
Jordan Lee

We wish the players success whilst representing the County and we are sure they will represent Shildon AFC well on their travels around the country.

Shildon 4 West Auckland 0

A Very Comfortable Win

Top of the league Shildon AFC played bottom club West Auckland Town at Dean Street on Saturday 12th September 2015 with the class difference  evident from the kick off , the Railwaymen winning easily 4 – 0, with all the goals coming in the first half.

On 19 minutes a Matty Robson cross was headed in by Billy Greulich-Smith. Constant pressure paid off just before the half hour when Ben Wood crossed for Paul Connor to head past keeper David Knight. Minutes later Matty Robson squared the ball to Daniel Moore whose right foot curler found the roof of the net. Just before the interval a corner kick was cleared out to Daniel Moore who blasted through a crowded defence for 4 – 0 and game well and truly over for West.

As in the first half it was one-way-traffic in the second, but despite having all the possession Shildon were unable to capitalise on their superiority. They missed chance after chance and should have doubled their score, with Daniel Moore, Billy Greulich-Smith, Paul Connor and Kyle Fryatt all squandering good scoring opportunities.
