Shildon AFC is running a poll at www.shildonafc.com to choose the home strip for the 2018/19 Season.

The strips are manufactured by Avec and since launching in 1993 as the Official Kit Supplier to Sunderland AFC, Avec Sport has continued to supply a large portfolio of professional clubs within the Premier League and Football League, which more recently includes Crystal Palace FC, Doncaster Rovers FC and Scunthorpe United FC.

Talk in with Micky Barron at Shildon AFC Social Club

Our series of hugely successful talk ins will conclude on Friday June 22nd when our guest speaker will be our very own Micky Barron.

Micky started his career at Middlesbrough. Spending four years at the club before going out on loan to Hartlepool United. Micky made his debut for Hartlepool against Carlisle United. During his loan spell Barron made 14 appearances. Middlesbrough then released Barron and he signed permanently for Hartlepool.

From 1999 to 2005, Barron spent the majority of that term as club captain and made over 326 appearances for the club and has the eighth most total number of appearances for the club.

He was in the Hartlepool side that had three consecutive Football League Third Division play-off semi-final defeats before winning promotion in 2002–03 but being pipped to the league title by Rushden & Diamonds.

He led out the Hartlepool team as captain in their League One play-off final in May 2005 against Sheffield Wednesday where a late equaliser eight minutes from time denied Pools their first ever promotion to the Championship, Hartlepool went on to lose in extra-time 4–2 in front of a crowd of 59,808 at the Millennium Stadium.

To celebrate 10 seasons with the club, a series of events were held such as testimonial dinner with Bobby Robson as guest speaker. Barron could only attend the later stages of the dinner as he was involved in a reserve team match while trying to make his comeback from injury. A testimonial game, against Leeds United which Hartlepool won 2–1, was also held.During his time on the sidelines, he became a regular special guest commentator on Pool’s World, the Hartlepool United audio commentary service.

It promises to be an entertaining evening.

Ahead of this weekend’s Emirates FA Cup Final, Wembley Stadium has lit up its iconic arch in the colours of all 737 teams to play in the competition this season, including Shildon FC

 

737 teams from Step 6 of the National League system through to the Premier League took part in the 137th edition of the world’s oldest domestic cup competition, involving over 11,000 players and resulting in over 3,000 goals. Days before the showpiece Final which will be played at Wembley Stadium connected by EE, the stadium’s arch and big screen lit up to celebrate every one of the clubs, from the 370 who started in the Extra Preliminary Round in early August through to the two Premier League finalists who will be battling it out for the trophy this weekend.

 

This season’s Emirates FA Cup Final kicks off at 17:15 on Saturday 19 May and will see Antonio Conte’s Chelsea and Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United go head to head for the coveted silverware.

THE FA CELEBRATES EMIRATES FA CUP GOALSCORERS ON CUP FINAL BALL

 

Players from across the football pyramid will have their names at the heart of this season’s Emirates FA Cup Final.

The FA has placed the names of 137 goalscorers from this season’s competition on the Nike Ordem V, Cup Final ball to be used at the 137th edition of the showpiece fixture.  The Ball For All celebrates players from Step 6 of the National League system through to the Premier League, who all share the accolade of being a goalscorer in the world’s oldest domestic cup competition.

The names included represent goalscorers from every round, beginning at the Extra Preliminary Round through to the Semi Finals and also include a selection of the season’s most memorable and impactful strikes.

Among the names represented on the Ball For All are:

 

  • Liam Pullen of Chipping Sodbury Town, whose strike in the Extra-Preliminary Round was the club’s first ever goal in the competition.
  • Noah Keats, whose goal in the Fourth Round Qualifying saw Truro City become the first Cornish side to reach the First Round Proper since 1969.
  • League One Wigan Athletic’s Will Grigg, whose strike against Manchester City sealed a famous Fifth Round victory.
  • Alexis Sánchez and Willian, who both scored decisive goals for this season’s finalists.
  • Adam Burnicle for his strikes against Banbury United

 

Andy Ambler, The FA’s Director of Professional Game Relations, said: “One of the most special things about The Emirates FA Cup is that a goalscorer in the Extra-Preliminary Round shares the same accolade as some of football’s most famous names. Over three thousand goals have been scored in this season’s competition, from all levels of the football pyramid and the 137 from across the country are representative of all who have contributed to this season’s competition.”

Liam Pullen, Chipping Sodbury Town FC, who will also have the accolade of presenting the match ball ahead of kick-off, said: “To have played and scored in my club’s first ever Emirates FA Cup match back in August was a dream come true and was one of the highlights of my career to date. It’s an honour for my name to feature on the Ball For All and to be asked to carry it out at Wembley Stadium ahead of the Final is going to be extra special. I’m really looking forward to the experience and will be very proud to be representing all of the players who have scored in this season’s competition.”

At the close of the season, The FA will have distributed a total of £14.6 million in competition prize money to the 737  competing teams.

 

The ‘Ball For All’

–          We have selected Adam Burnicle from Shildon AFC for his goal in the Third Round Qualifying as one of the 137 names.

Talk in with Andy Campbell at Shildon AFC Social Club

There will be a talk in with former Middlesbrough FC Striker Andy Campbell on Friday 18th May, 8pm Start

Entry is free and all are welcome to attend.

Born in Middlesbrough, Campbell started his career with his hometown team Middlesbrough, whom he left for Cardiff City for £1m. Some of his career highlights include scoring against Manchester United in the FA Cup in a 2–0 win for Middlesbrough, and also playing for his country at under 21 level. His Cardiff career got off to an explosive start, scoring 6 times in his first 4 appearances. He scored once on his debut against Northampton, twice on his third appearance against Blackpool and a hat-trick in his fourth appearance against Oldham. Overall, he had two fairly productive years at the beginning of his spell at Ninian Park, including a fine lob over goalkeeper Chris Day at the Millennium Stadium to give Cardiff a play-off victory over Queens Park Rangers to put them into the Football League Championship.

ENL1 RESULT | Shildon 3 Ryhope CW 2

Shildon finished 3rd in the Ebac Northern League Division One after a 3-2 victory against Ryhope CW at Dean Street.

Carl Jones scored to give Shildon the lead 7 minutes into the game. Just before half time Stephen Ramsey scored to send the teams in level at half time.

2 minutes into the second half Billy Greulich-Smith gave Shildon the lead heading in from close range. Matty Robson then ran the full length of the pitch to score and make it 3-1. Stephen Ramsey then scored his second of the game to make the final score Shildon 3 Ryhope CW 2.
