Shildon looking to regain that goal scoring touch on derby day

Shildon will be in search of finding their early season goal scoring form as they make the short trip to local rivals Bishop Auckland on Saturday.

The railway men head into the weekends game on the back of another disappointing game mid-week away to Whickham.

A very late second half goal ensured that Shildon came away with at least a point however coach Bryan woods believes the side must be doing better in front of goal.

“One thing we need to do is to start converting more of our chances, there’s too many touches in and around the box and I think we could have had a handful.”

Despite the two dropped points, woods still felt the result highlighted a more than desirable trait for the side.

“Just the fact we’ve walked off with a point, the lads have right until the end and if we want to take any real positive out the game it’s that we battled right until the end. “

Meanwhile, Bishop Auckland host today’s game on the back of 2 straight defeats in which they have shipped six goals, potentially more today should Shildon manage to find their shooting boots once again.

Moore – “we’ve got to start putting points on the board”

Shildon will be in search of a much needed three points when they take on a wavering Whickham side on Wednesday night.

The club head into the next round of mid-week fixtures in the Ebac Northern League division one on the back of a convincing 3-0 dismissal of Tow Law town on Saturday.

Speaking after his sides weekend victory in the FA vase qualifying round, manager Daniel Moore was pleased to see a more assured defensive display as well as the overall performance.

“Pleased with a clean sheet. Build up play in phases was really good. Again, in that final third we had a few chances and didn’t take them but yeah overall, I was pleased. “

Moving onto Wednesday nights matchup Moore anticipates another tough fixture but one the club can be confident and come away with points.

“We’ll go there. Another tough game but we’ve got to start putting points on the board if we’re going to finish in that top three. “

“We have to go there with a bit of confidence with the clean sheet and get a result.”

As for whickham, they enter Wednesday’s game on the back of 4 straight defeats after a strong start to the season and will be in search of a win to get themselves back into the mix at the top of the table.

MATCH PREVIEW: Shildon vs Penrith

Railway men looking for strong response after a week to forget

Shildon will be hoping for a much need result this weekend as they welcome Penrith to Dean Street.

The home side head into Saturday’s match up on the back of two defeats in a row, both away from home, after Wednesday night’s 3-1 defeat to North Shields, so familiar surroundings may prove pivotal.

On the pitch though, manager Daniel Moore revealed on after Wednesday’s game that he will be without defender Jordan Lavery with what is believed to be a pulled groin to only add to a mounting list of absentees for the club.

However, the manager expects his team to manage well none the less “We’re a bit thin at the moment but we’ve got a squad for that reason”.

With Shildon currently sitting 12th in the Ebac Northern league division one, the manager has called for the Railway men to perform much better across the pitch.

“We’ve just got to keep going, defend the box better and take chances when they come along, we should have been 2-0 up before they (North Shields) even scored their first. “

Meanwhile the visitors Penrith head over to Shildon with only a solitary point to their name so far and will be hoping for much improvement at a ground where the away side have conceded 13 goals in just 2 league games.
