Easter Holiday Activities are Back!

Shildon AFC CIC is delighted to confirm that our hugely popular Easter Holiday Activites Programme is back and will be held between the 3rd and 6th of April 2023.

Support for this year’s programme has been given by Bishop Auckland and Shildon Area Action Partnership, Livin and the Hays Travel Foundation.

The activities will be held on the Community Garden at Dean Street with coaching sessions run by Shildon AFC Captain, Ben Trotter.

Shildon AFC Chairman, David Dent said: “We are true community football club and this programme enables us to help members of our community but at the same time give the children some structured play and fun. We’ve been doing this programme for some time and our investment in the Community Garden and our separate CIC company now allows us to step up our activities. We are delighted to have secured long term funding from Hays Travel Foundation and also from Livin and the AAP to make the activities FREE to everyone.  We look forward to welcoming all children along and we hope they enjoy the week with us”.

The places on the scheme are offered to the children of Livin residents initially and then will be offered for everybody to apply (children must be aged 8-12 years).

Each session will run from 10:00am to 3:00pm and every child will be offered breakfast and lunch with drinks also available.  The programme is absolutely free to all the children who are offered a place.

Children should wear appropriate footwear to play football on the all weather surface.

We look forward to welcoming all the children during the Easter holidays.

Shildon AFC appoint Martin Gray as new Sporting Director

Ebac Northern League Division one side, Shildon AFC, have today appointed Martin Gray as sporting director. Gray a former Sunderland and Darlington player recently managed York City in the National League North, and enjoyed three promotions at Darlington, taking them to National League North from the Northern League.

David Dent, chairman Shildon AFC said “We are building on the clubs strong foundations to help us realise our ambitions on and off the pitch. Martin’s appointment is a defining moment in the club’s history. He is an exceptional coach and manager and brings strong leadership skills which will assist first team manager, Daniel Moore in realising his ambitions of managing Shildon AFC at a higher level.

Dent went on to say “we have spent a great deal of time planning the clubs next step and Martin is an essential part of this and he is as excited as I am at the challenge ahead. This is a five year project and I am confident we will see Shildon competing in the Northern Premier League, with a successful Academy behind us. This forms a crucial part of the work which is ongoing with our community club sponsor Livin allowing the club to be truly engaged with our local community”.

Martin Gray said ” I was approached a number of weeks ago by David to discuss the opportunity of taking Shildon forward and progressing up the leagues. His vision, the project ahead and the role of sporting director excites me, I had numerous management offers earlier in the season but they have not been right for me. This feels right”

“It’s about the bigger picture for the club and Shildon. As soon as I met with David and we discussed the plans for the wider community, it was easy to see how we could work in partnership to achieve this. I have had subsequent meetings with David and manager Daniel Moore and we are united in our thoughts moving forward”

Daniel Moore, Shildon AFC Manager said: “ Having met Martin and spoken with him and David at length about our plans for the future, I can say there are exciting times ahead for the club, the town, the players and myself.

Moore went on to say: “Martin has a wealth of experience in professional and non league football which I can tap into and that can only help the development of myself as a manager and the professional running of the club which I have worked hard on over the last two years”.

Shildon AFC have further plans which will see Harry Dunn appointed Head of Recruitment and further investment secured. Dunn who has worked with Martin in the past is starting work immediately for this and next season.

Shildon AFC & Local Community to benefit from Club Sponsorship

Shildon Association Football Club (AFC) has joined forces with Livin to secure a three year sponsorship partnership set to benefit the community by encouraging more local young people to get involved in sport.

As part of the sponsorship new kits will be purchased and funding will be provided to the club’s development team to enable more budding sports stars to take up football.

With long-standing roots in the community, Shildon AFC was established in 1890 and today competes in the Ebac Northern League first division after a number of successful years. The club has nine youth teams within its development centre, in addition to the first team.

David Dent, chairman of Shildon AFC said: “We are delighted to secure the sponsorship with Livin. The money will go a long way to help the club be the best it can be on and off the pitch. It will ensure that we can compete at the very top of the Northern League and support our growing development centre, attracting new players and supporters to Dean Street.”

Alan Boddy, director of operations, for Livin, said: “We have strong connections with the community in Shildon and we have worked closely with Sunderland AFC charity the Foundation of Light to establish the Foundations Community Hub in the town centre. Through this we work with local schools and community groups to help more people get into sport, education, training and employment. This partnership continues this work by helping Shildon AFC to grow its reputation as a community club by enhancing its offer to young people and the local community.”
